i just got a 2005 california,i have it in cancun mexico, there are no cali in this country i took it to the vw dealer and they took pictures of it instead of helping me, can any one tell me if the control center iluminates for the readings, in my cali only the four bottons around the screen iluminate but the screen does not, so i have to use a torch to read the info.i opened the screen but i only saw 2 circuits and did not want to open them more,

Sounds like you may have a defective control panel. Quite a big topic here at the moment, try searching.

yes its a t4 diesel 4 cilinder,

Yes the screen should illuminate when the vehicle driving lights are on, otherwise no.
