Hi chaps, one issue I need to fix quick on the new van.

By fiddling around with the switch on the stalk then once or twice all day yesterday the cruise initiated and the dash display green light came on - guessing there is some issue inside the stalk, all the switches are positive in feel and the indicator and vehicle light part works OK - just not the cruise switching.

When I did get it to switch on the up/down/set buttons worked fine and the cruise 'set' so that's what made me suspect the actual stalk insides?

Can anyone help please - is it possible to delve inside these stalks and if not what is involved (time and money) in replacing it? I think the whole left/right stalks are one unit! ;(

Many thanks.

I'm in discussions with this chap near Birmingham.

My demo Beach was advertised with (optional) cruise but didn't actually have it fitted on handover... VW won't retrofit, but through persistence my Dealer has agreed to pay for an after-market specialist to do so - fantastic.

If you already have it fitted but it's broken here's an indicative ball-park for the parts only - £134:

Thanks for that - presuming T5 and 5.1 use the same stalk it does not seem a disaster for the whole unit - I would not need the loom either I guess.

I've been advised to get it on Vagcom to check all the fault codes....

Just back from local VW guy - going in Monday for new cruise assembly.

New stalk fitted, working beautifully - I could not be without cruise!

As a bonus the steering wheel is actually on straight now too. :)

Just the Side Door now.:thumb

Good to see you fixed it. For future folk finding this thread sometimes cruise issues can be an indication that the brake light switch is faulty, had this issue with my Alfa, cheap to fix too.

Quite right - first things to check are the brake (and clutch if a manual) switches. Running it through diagnostics will show up the fault though and given the erratic nature of the switch operation this was the likely issue - not unknown with the stalks I understand.

Yes on mine it was made more obvious because my brake lights were flickering when driving along. Never found this out until someone followed me home one time.
