Looking to buy
Hi all.
We are looking to buy a Cali Ocean, either new or demo.
We are looking for a good dealer as close to the Sheffield area as possible.
We went to Liverpool and the service was great from the new Cali chaps, however the service deteriorated drastically in the used/demo area. Dealer with all the old tactics being practiced. “Sign today” and all that rubbish.
PS I dont know if I buy from a certain dealer do we have to take it back to that particular dealer for warranty issues?

Thanks in advance Rod.

Maybe try west Yorkshire VW at Cleckheaton, they will be close to you.

You can use any dealer/van centre for warranty issues

No you can take it to the dealer you want for service or warranty work.

Looking at the Das Welt Auto site there are vans still there that I looked at in August/September last year, although in some the prices have come down a bit.

I bought mine from Listers Droitwich and my daughter went through Swansway Birmingham. Both pretty good.

You can use any van centre for warranty/service work, so don't restrict yourself to local dealers for purchasing.

If you want to order a new van, create your spec and then speak to a few dealers to get the best price. When I bought mine (2017) about 5-7% discount was readily available.

If you are happy with an ex-demo (and my daughter certainly was, last December) keep an eagle eye on the VW used van listings. You can get a significantly higher discount (10-15%) for a van which often has delivery miles only. My daughter's Ocean was about 4 months old with 600 miles on the clock.

I couldn't see any good reason to go for a second-hand van unless you go for something more than 3 years old. Because depreciation is so low, the best value for money is usually ex-demo, less than 6 months old.

Liverpool have a reputation for good prices, but very little (if any) room for haggling. They sell an awful lot of vans and I think they have a pretty good rep overall on here. Strangely, my daughter's van (from Brum, remember) came with Liverpool VW stickers and key fobs - they obviously needed to shift it through the dealer network.

Their California specialist centre is in Birstal. Ask for Mark. He knows his stuff.

There's a van centre near Darton in Sheffield that sells calis. Although last time I was there it was only brand new ones. I've had some work done there before but not 100 percent sure their 'master technician' knows what he's on about. Worth a try though as they're local to you. Europa close I think the rds called

Good luck! And :welcome

Hey there and thanks for the replies. Great help. We went to see the opposition this weekend. Hillside and such and weren’t impressed with the VW’s.
Did about 250 miles between Bradford and Nottingham.
So it looks like a Cali still. Probably a very low mile used stock.

I bought mine from Steve at VW Leicester

Very impressed v our local dealer in Guildford. It was pre registered with 17 miles.

Ps no need to drive he'll send you a video etc, first time I visited was when we picked it up.

The Liverpool and Birmingham van centres ae part of the same group.
Visit a couple of dealers and see how you feel. Go on gut instinct and a bit of research.
The days of being able to haggle a deal are gone, as most dealerships use computer software to understand the marketplace.
I have used the Birmingham van centre a couple of times now for servicing work, and cannot fault them. They are also quite convenient, and this is important when you have issues.

We bought our CaliO from VW Van Centre (West Yorkshire); they have two sites, one in Cleckheaton but for Cali sales go to the one in Batley. The main guy there is Mark Wheelwright, he looked after us well and knows his stuff.

Mark sorted out everything for us including getting all extra's organized such as warranty, service package, body protection, dealer options and added extras such as darker tints, tracker, wheels, so that when we took delivery everything was done and ready to roll.

Anyway, based on my own experience, I'd highly recommend our dealer to anyone looking to buy a Cali.
