Hi all, just after some advice on a few subjects for when I take the Cali down to Lake Garda in June ish! First time in Europe with the Cali and it’s been a few years since I drove across France so any insights from anyone who’s done it recently would be great.

1. Breakdown cover? I can pay a bit extra for my Green Flag cover to include Europe, are there any other better options or companies to use in Europe?
2. Tolls? Emovis tag for France best? Vignette for Switzerland? What about Italy?
3. Campsites Lake Garda? Any recommendations for campsites around the Lake, my ideal would be to be able to walk into a town and also walk to Ferries etc to get around!

Any recommendations based on your experiences would be much appreciated!

Thanks
Paul

BipandGo tags cover France and Italy. Swiss vignette (lasts 12 months) is required for motorways, buy from official website (around 40euros) or at border crossings.

Fuel prices in Luxembourg, Livigno and Austria could be worth considering depending upon your planned route

Thank you

Thank you, have not heard of BipandGo before, will look them up!

Ok, thanks, will look at that, mines a TSI so pretty thirsty and that might make a difference!
AA Website used to have fuel prices by country, I’ve not looked for ages, so I don’t know if it still does. Livigno is not far from Stelvio Pass and there is no fuel duty paid there, so cheaper than most of Italy :)

We were in Lake Garda last summer. Beautiful. We booked and stayed at Camping Cuppaccini. 5 minute walk into town. Lovely campsite. We stopped twice on our way to Croatia and back. June is good time to go to the lake but August avoid.

As I remember all Swiss service stations charge 1CHF for a wee, free if you take out a mortgage and buy something to eat there. Have some CHFs ready for the stop.

The vignette is all online now, scan the QR code as you enter, you can sign up online for the next 12 months. Previously you needed a sticker for your screen, now it’s all ANPR.

We stayed at Lake Iseo in September, very busy and only just managed to find a camp site on spec. Suspect booking is advisable.

Have a smashing trip.

Lake Garda is big, there are loads of campsites so it really depends which end you want to stay at.

We don't go back to the same campsite very often but we are going back here in Easter - https://campingzoo.it/en/. It was so nice and Arco is well connected to other places.

You need to book soon, Lake Garda in June will be packed out.

We are here right now! We stayed at Agrisalus.it, which was really good! Now we're at Agritur Trefrutti, which is ok - but the services aren't as good as at Agrisalus. Both have very nice owners. Agrisalus have homemade Gelato and cheese though

When it Italy. ...

We also had to get our starter replaced while staying here, super quick and easy.

Fulli covers France and Italy, also Spain and Portugal. I switched from Emovis for that reason.

Great info, thanks and crikey, 1CHF for a wee at my age could be costly. Lake Iseo is on my list, looks lovely and I assumed as it’s smaller and less popular would be considerably quieter than Garda particularly in June but will need to check it out!

Thanks, will check this place out, I was maybe being a bit naive thinking June would be quiet so wouldn’t need to book much in advance but looks like I might need to re-think that approach!

Thanks, I will have a look at Argrisalus, not one I had found in my brief search! Nightmare needing a new starter but good to know things can get sorted quickly if needed!

Thank you, not heard of Fulli, will check it out, this is all brilliant information, much appreciated!

It feels like half of Germany decamps to Lake Garda from Easter to the end of Summer. You'll miss most of the school summer holidays in June but it will still be busy.
