Engine smoking

Hi

New on here.

I have an 89 T25 Cali, 1.6 TD LHD hi top. Based in S. Manchester

I have 3 nagging issues at the moment:

1. Last year we had the engine re-conditioned. All is well, pulls a bit stronger, smooth as anything. But I see puffs of dark smoke puffing out when demanding revs in lower gears even when engine warmed up after more than 30 mins or so. Is this to be expected of a 20 odd year old engine, although in a sense it is 'new'?

2. Water, battery etc warning lights (zigger unit?) under sink has stopped working. No flicker.

3. Eberspracher heater unit works perfectly but will not switch off! I disable it by disconnecting wire under the seat.

Any thoughts on these issues gratefully received. Thanks for reading.

Paul

PS - would it be advisable to post these items as separate posts?

Hi Paul,

Not too sure how many T25 Cali owners are on here, if any, so the more technical questions might be better on somewhere like club 80-90 or Brickwerks forums.

Regarding the Eber, they don't switch off immediately when you turn them off. Mine runs for several minutes after it is has switched off.

You would need to confirm what 'reconditioned' means - this varies in each T25 specialist. Reconditioned doesn't mean new engine - it means they replace certain parts.

From my own personal experience of this - if you have not already, clarify what they replaced. What they haven't replaced would be your potential problem. As many here will testify - on old buses you fix one thing and something that hasn't been a problem before suddenly decides to play up.

So clarify what reconditioning means - what parts of have they replaced.

Hope this helps and I have been here with a T25 (Vanagon)
