Exploding back axle

Anyone had trouble with their 4 motion back axle and diff?
Mines done26k gentle miles and just had a massive bill from Citygate for a replacement.
Is it a common fault at such low miles. ?
Volkswagen offered a paltry 30% towards it which I feel is an insult.
Never towed , just me and a passenger max in the vehicle.
Engine has been out twice due to oil leak on dsg.
Possible reason why axle went due to incorrect re assembly?
Absolutely discusted with VW s
attitude.

Wow! I have no experience but that sounds rather harsh. (especially when you consider the two engine removals too).
