Good luck, hopefully things loosen up for you guys soon. No campsites over here open yet, but plenty of wild opportunities.

I cycled around Helsinki yesterday, it was a public holiday and loads of people we’re around enjoying the sunshine, and picnics in the parks, lots of traffic. Many shops are still shut but it felt almost back to normal, brilliant. Things are starting to look up.

We read this week that Norway has requested the Schengen community to be allowed to keep the borders closed/under surveillance for another 90 days after May 15. https://live.tv2.no/koronaviruset?innlegg=1188597241

We were planning to start our summer trip to Scandinavia, including Norway, on Aug 15, sailing back from Bergen end of Sept... Will be a close call... :Nailbiting

It seems that is the case yes. Keep an eye on the date and you could maybe move your start a couple of days if needed

Here is a link showing the current border control end dates. According to this Norway has controls in place until November 11th.

Well..., ferries were booked already for fixed dates/cheap tickets... :headbang

Hmmm..., well... that is not a Norwegian or government site, according to the ’about us’, but a bunch of Indian (judging by their names) journalists, and the site has very shady whois info. Don’t know what to think of it. We’ll just have to wait and see, probably.

In the meantime, campsites are back in business in The Netherlands? Next week, minor "recreational" displacements will be allowed in Belgium. But summer vacation is still in doubt...

I’ve only heard about the 90 day extension being official so far, but there were suggestions of the rest of the year flying around. I guess it all depends on how things go in the rest of Europe the next few months.

In nearly all regions they are allowed to acept visitors now, but facilities (toilet buildings, restaurants, etc) are closed. Sometimes grey and black water dumps are open. So, you need to bring your PotaPotti. We have invested in a pop-up toilet tent, and went for a one night trip to Drenthe, last weekend.

There are campsites that have private facilities on pitches, these are nearly all booked full for the whole year now...

If we are all confined to stay in the countries that we live this summer then i
would expect the campsites in the Netherlands to be quite full.

Not necessarily, I think.

The ones with private facilities on the pitches yes, but those with hardly any facilities (which we prefer anyway) not necessarily: we find many people don’t want to camp without regular facilities such as showers, washing machines, etc, shy away from using their own portapotti, etc. There were only 6 people on the campsite we visited last weekend.

And then, there won’t be any visitors from abroad. In peak season, there are e.g. usually a lot of people from Germany visiting the coastal sites, and in your scenario they won’t come.

Well, with no school going children in the household anymore, we have the luxury to be able to avoid peak season anyway!

From July 1 onward, Dutch campsites can open their toilet buildings to the public again.

Nothing decided in Belgium yet, in France they will reopen first in the "green" zones, but no date yet. And we"ll have to wait and see if borders will open for travel too...

Todays update from the government... Border will remain closed for people to enter until 20th August.... But, this date will be re-evaluated on the 20th of July when they may make exceptions for countries close to Norway (they mentioned Germany so I would guess Netherlands would be included here). It will depend how things have gone in the rest of the EU as to whether or not and who they open up to.

Have been to campsites here in NL for the last 5 weekends. Most were open, but all facilities were closed as @bvddobb mentioned. So needed to bring a portapotti. The sites weren't busy but not deserted either. Mostly people who rent pitches for the season and some campervans for the weekends. No tents.

Hoping to be able to visit Sweden and Norway in august. Am keeping faith against better judgment, but to be honest, I don't see it happening. If not, then we'll do a tour of small green campings in NL.

For those who can read German: the ADAC maintains a very comprehensive site with all the recent info re camping in the various European countries: https://www.pincamp.de/magazin/ratgeber/reisehinweise-faehren/corona-faq

We read there that the Norwegian government decided yesterday that people from the Schengen area can visit family in Norway. Glad we have some family there!

@bvddobb Thanks for the tip! That's very interesting. As we also have family in Norway. The translation reads:

Update May 14, 2020: The Norwegian government has decided that EU / EEA citizens who have work, family or real estate in Norway are allowed to enter the country. Holiday home owners can therefore travel to Norway. The entry restrictions for all other persons remain.

Does sponsoring a christmas tree count as real estate :)
