First European trip!

We are very excited to be planning our first trip in our VW California! We are arriving in Santander and planning to travel to Barcelona, along the south coast of France and up into Northern Italy to Lake Garda before returning back through France to the UK. Are there any must go to campsites that are suitable for families who love the sea and water!

Hell of a trip fair play - that’s a long drive.
Numerous campsites along that route - but it can get very busy during the summer months in some areas (so if you see one you like it might be best to book). Personally, we always just go and see what hits us and have always got a pitch, but there’s just two of us.
Have you pinpointed any particular areas? When and how long are you going for?

This is also the exact trip we are considering for 2024. With two boys who will be aged 9 and 10. There is an ion surf club in Golf de Roses which is about as far as our plans have got! Similarly any sites at Lake Garda with surf schools.
I am conscious of how busy some of the roads will be so will do as much driving overnight or very early when we can.
We are thinking of doing it over 3-4 weeks.
