Fitting new engine battery

For reasons I won't bore you with, I have two engine batteries

I've managed to let the battery in the van go flat and have charged up the second battery. When I came to switch batteries I found a nut that was quite inaccessible.

I am wondering what type of spanner I require to undo this nut. The challenge is that it's the depth of the battery and is in quite a tight space. I'm guessing there's a special type of spanner that would undo this nut with ease.

Any advice and guidance would be really appreciated

Thanks

No, just a socket and ratchet with a long extension bar will do it. The bolt is set at an angle for easier access. As HC has posted above.

BTW, when you change the battery you may need to reset the radio, although I didn't.
I did loose the remote window open/close function though. Haven't been able to rest that with my Carista OBD thingy.

Thanks for your prompt and helpful reply AlanC - I shall get onto that right now

I really appreciate it

If you have BlueMotion, as an “Option” on your Vehicle then the new battery has to be coded to the vehicle. But this may not be applicable in your case.

It's a 2012 model and I'm pretty sure I don't have BlueMotion - however thanks for pointing it out. There's a garage close to where I live who specialise in VWs, so I am sure they can help me if necessary.

If you have lost the Auto close function it is because the Window Module has lost its memory of what is Fully Open/Closed.
Ignition On.
Fully Open window and hold the Switch On for at least 5 secs.
Fully Close window and hold the Switch On for at least 5 secs.

1 Button auto closure should now work.

Thanks WG,
Do you need to do this with both windows or just one?
Will do this tomorrow.

Not sure, but probably both.

I can't believe that was a question
I’m not sure what you are getting at.
I don’t know if the Fully Open/Closed position information is stored separately for L & R windows or if the information for 1 window is extrapolated for the 2nd window?
If it works then I’m sure @AlanC will let us know.

About how to undo a bolt, and someone suggesting a socket set.

I sat in the van yesterday and opened both windows together and then held the buttons down for 10 seconds. I then closed both again holding the buttons up for 10 secs. Although the windows do both close fully, which they did anyway, they still didn't work on the auto close/open on the key fob, so I gave up.

However, today I drove the van and tried the key fob window open and this does now work. So maybe I wasn't patient enough yesterday.

Thanks for the advice WG.

The procedure is down to the bottom let go press down again for 3 elephants. Pull up, the window jumps up a tiny bit and stops, pull up to the top, let go and pull up again for 3 elephants.

That would account for it. Guesswork is not always the right way. Thanks Loz
