Hi to everyone from club freshers Steve and Anne - joined after buying our van a couple of months ago privately.

We wanted a camper, not too big and one made of steel. Only a California fitted the bill. Friends said get a T6. Had to be an Ocean for A/C in the rear – nothing more upsetting than a hot dog.

Looked long and hard until finding one we liked enough to want to buy and were able to nab before someone else. Hopefully we chose wisely. Well, everything works as it should and all that’s been needed is fit a bellows bungee and just to be safe, replace the original engine battery.

We’ve so far been to the High Peak in Derbyshire and around Northumbria without a hiccup and thoroughly enjoyed every moment, down in part to some stupendous spring weather and not least for belatedly discovering the pleasure of spontaneity, being able to get up one day and with our trusty pooch go pretty-much anywhere without having to think of turning for home and a bed.

Ours is a 2017 Ocean 204ps in Onyx white with 18” wheels, DSG Auto and FWD. It now has 54700 miles on the clock, burns next to no oil, loses no coolant and following a dose of Cataclean skipped along on our 600 mile trip at 43-47 mpg. All good, fingers crossed.

What I have realised, hard not to, is just how appalling what I take to be the standard suspension is on undulating surfaces. She who must be obeyed, however, keeps egging for another trip so the cure whatever it might be will have to wait and for now we’ll live with what we’ve got, which in perspective is still immeasurably more fun than a car with a top-box. Car drivers, for starters, don’t wave, but they do I’ve noticed tend to conveniently move over when there’s a white van coming.

Thank you to everyone for the trove of advice on the website.

Welcome. Suspension options are varied and everyone has opinions on it. I got a big improvement swapping the 2 rear springs for t32 springs on transporter hq heavy duty bottom mounts. I could do with swapping the fronts one day but that's a bigger job. Enjoy

Welcome, Steve and Anne! Sounds like you’ve got a great van and are already making the most of it. Totally agree — the freedom it gives is unbeatable.

May I ask, which colour coded springs from a T32 did you use?
