Kyham LED strip light fitting and tailgate rubber seal

So have fitted the Kyham LED strip light system and have hard wired to the light switch by feeding the wires through the tailgate rubber seal but can’t get the seal fitted back on satisfactorily, right where the wire enters.

Any tips on how to engage the rubber fully or should I look at alternative entry points ie feed the cable back along tailgate to loom entry, cut hole, enter and feed under upper trim to rear inner light ?
