I'm no kind of petrolhead or v-dub fan so could anybody do a duffer's guide to lowering springs please?

Not overly fussed about the aesthetics but I like the idea of going under a 2.0m barrier in a 1.97m van. Is it as simple as that?

What difference does it make to drive/handling? Is it OK to go lower on the standard 17" wheels?

What are the drawbacks? Why aren't they made lower as standard?

VW did offer a lowered option when I purchased, 3+ years ago but not on the 4M??

Lots of options-
VW Dealer supply & fit.
Various Independent suppliers & fitters.
Buy your own and either DIY or get local Garage to fit.

Just springs can be changed or matched springs and dampers.

Good option now is Eibach adjustable height set as you have a range of lowered position to suit you.
example

Don't go too low or problems with ground clearance on tracks or fields.

Ultimate option is air suspension but expensive.

Removed suspension parts are of little value.

NOTE! I believe that the 6.1 has different front (rear) springs to T6 so check any that you may be looking at.
