Great pic. It's actually called an ice halo caused by ice crystals in the high atmosphere. You can get them around the sun too sometimes creating false sun's called sun dogs. Earlier this year an amazing sun halo was seen in the UK I need to find a pic on space weather. I saw part of this earlier in the year but never managed to catch a pic as good as this one. They're more common in winter and the arctic
