Evening.

We’re complete newbies to all things vanlife and California related. We picked up Dora in August and our first few months were great until we travelled to France in October and out oil light kept coming on.

Long story short, we appear to have the dreaded fault that plagues the 2lt 180bhp engines.

The garage that we bought her from don’t want to know and are trying to fob us off and say that it’s perfectly normal to go only get 800 miles out of our oil when it’s been filled up?

Had anyone else got any experience of this?

We’re deviated. We absolutely love our van but feel that we’re being completely mugged off!

Thanks in advance

Sorry to hear about your problems.
What year is your vehicle and how many miles?

Whatever the dealer that sold you the van makes no difference, your van will have a warranty and you have reported the problem to them. Make sure you document it in writing to the dealer .It does look like you have that problem that the 180 suffers from.
You will have to go through the procedure of having the oil tested to see prove that you have the suspected fault.
It’s not nice for something like this to happen but hopefully you will get a good outcome.
Is that 800 miles per litre of oil or 800 miles before the light comes on?

800 miles before the light came on.

I just picked the van up from them today after them finally agreeing to do a compression test which had the following results:

1 - 20.8
2 - 20.8
3 - 21.0
4 - 19.6

They’ve advised that this is within spec but I’m really struggling to find any official figures to confirm this.

I don’t think that the engine fails through lack of compression. There are others on here who can give you the proper explanation.
