It's really another shamless Peak Distruct plug. We went out the other night to get pictures of the Milky Way at out local old leadmine. No Milky Way as the clouds came in but some some nice photos all the same. Amazing what the camera can see that the naked eye can't.
This about half one in the morning.

Nice photos, would be interested in details of camera and exposure times to get such a good effect

Canon 5d mk3. Canon 16-35mm EF lens.
f2.8. ISO 600. Exposures between 5 and 12 seconds. Obviously on a tripod with remote release.
Manual focus. Image stabilisation off. No filters.
RAW .

ArcticMatt .. WOW, WOW & WOW again. Fab pics. I hope to be able to do this one day. Thank you for sharing.

@ArcticMatt amazing pictures. I envy you get to experience aurora borealis more often. We got to see it in Signaldalen this winter and it was unbelievable.

Cheers. There's always lots of waiting and hanging about but the hard top keeps the van proper toasty! Nothing beats seeing it when the sky goes nuts.

You don't happen to have it on video? I won't be going that direction in the near future, so I would like to see it through someone else's eyes.

Please?

I've taken a timelapse video but it's not quite the same. My camera (Pentax K1) is sensitive but not good enough for video. Folk have been using the Sony A7 to capture it real time though. You can see footage on YouTube.
