Does anyone know of a way to get the reversing camera to come on without putting the vehicle in reverse? Would be useful for security.

Depends whether you will have ignition switch on or not at the time you require the camera to work. Assuming that you are using the vw installed camera that displays via the built in media display then you will need power to both the camera and the display head unit. Not impossible but will require accessing and cutting in to existing vw wiring loom, which will probably affect your warranty.

It might be easier for you to install a totally separate rear camera and display. You might also install front and side cameras at the same time to the same display. There are 360 degree camera kits available.

Don't know about a GC, but in our T6 it comes on automatically when choosing reverse...think it should be standard? (when your camera was installed by VW)

The original poster of the message specifically requests that they do not put the vehicle in to reverse in order to operate the rear view camera for their security reasons.
