Peaches had her mammary lump removed last Friday. Results from histology came through today and show a stage 2 tumour. The good news is very good margins around it (7, 9 and 14mm). Also no sign of lymphatic issues. Xrays were done last week (I asked for them to be done whilst she had anaesthetic) and were all good. The type of tumour (I will post when the vet emails it to me) has a small chance of recurrence.
Vet is going to speak to an oncologist to ask about whether spay / neuter is advised and also whether a course of chemotherapy tablets is recommended.
I’m in shock and very upset but trying to stay positive.

Oh Alison, I'm so sorry to hear your news. The margins are good which, as you said, is good news. Sending you big hugs x

Thank you. I really need a hug right now. I don’t think a lot of people appreciate how hard this last year has been for people living alone. This is just another nightmare. Genuinely, I can’t take much longer without physical human contact. And I’m a strong person (well, everyone tells me I am after being one of 5 female engineers in a company of 2000 in the late 80’s...).
Sorry for the ramble and thank you for your lovely reply x

Dear Allison

You must feel so devastated, so alone. My heart goes out to you. If you want to scream, shout or just share a glass of wine over zoom then yell. I just wish my arms were long enough to give you a hug.

Poor Peaches, Max sends her a big manly hug as well. Bless her. Let's hope all the tumour is gone.

Jen xx

Thank you. Virtual hugs of any kind are really appreciated right now xx

I'm sure the whole forum will wrap you up in a big Cali Topper sized hug.

I’ll hold you all to that at the next meet!! Hopefully diva Peaches will be there to lap up the attention too :)
In her ‘escaped from Alcatraz’ surgical suit (I couldn’t find another colour in that size), she’s getting quite a lot if giggles whilst she cries with discontent at being forced to wear it on out short lead daily walks...

No apologies needed Alison. Remember that being a strong person and feeling alone aren’t mutually exclusive. These are the strangest of times and they have tested so many of us to our limits.

Take good care of yourself and your beautiful, four-legged friends. With the vaccine, there appears to be some light at the end of the tunnel, if we can hold it together, and I look forward to meeting both you and Peaches at a fabulous VWCC meet.

Best wishes

Kate

Not long to go before I'm sure both you and the dogs will be jumping with joy and getting big hugs from all of your friends. Take care.

Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow...
I accidentally stumbled across this forum January 2016, two months before I got my Cali. I’ve made some (I hope life long) friends.
I cannot thank people enough for the support they show when others are in need (even outside the technical Cali life world).
I felt quite honoured to be asked if I would become a moderator / coordinator.
Right now, not Cali related, I am struggling with a sick dog, not able to see family, and my friends can’t even hug me (whilst the neighbours all flout the rules).
So, a BIG THANK YOU to everyone on here for the support!

Oh Alison

We all wish we could give you a hug. I can only echo the amazing support that folk on here give. I tend not to go on fora often and don't have antisocial media at all, but when Thandi left us for a better place, I received so many lovely responses from all of you. (Thank You). So now I tend to cruise the Cali Dogs pages from time to time :), then I end up seeing other bits that interest me too. So, well done on becoming a moderator and thanks in advance for the hard work you will be doing to keep this such a great site.

I can't imagine how hard it must be for you on your own. We all pray that Peaches makes a quick recovery from the surgery and that there is no recurrrence. She is beautiful BTW.

Thanks Jen,
She’s a lot better - still being a Diva but at least now letting me cuddle her. So I did, all night long...
No news from vet regarding oncology.
I’m still a zombie, but after my meltdown on fb on Friday evening am getting a lot of support for walks with the others (only allowed 2 adults up here).
The care an support from you and others is getting me through.
Thank you :kiss x

Still awaiting the feedback from vet. But agility trainer is digging out the name of an oncologist in Scotland. So may get a specialist view.

I understand just how difficult that wait can be. I don't know what it's like in the veterinary world but it can take weeks for us to get histology results sometimes, even through the diagnostic cancer pathway. That's, in part, due to the huge number of samples being processed but also the fixation and staining times that some samples require.

Always worth getting a specialist opinion, especially one that comes recommended.

The important thing right now is to focus on those cuddles ;-)

I was lucky and histology was only 7 days from biopsy / mastectomy.
So now is the time for getting specialist canine oncology advice on the best path forward...
