I'm sure most folk are aware of the tragic accident in Norway, offshore Bergen yesterday.
Having lived for 10 years in Norway working in the oil & gas sector I still read the Norwegian newspapers daily.
This evening, there has been posted, and it may yet prove to be unverified, an article in one of the newspapers that claims that the helicopter involved in the incident had had on recent days a couple of times a 'light' in the cockpit and hence had to return to airport / not take off. Further short checks remedied this and the helicopter went on it's way.
No-one yet knows the cause of this disaster. There is a lot of speculation in the press. There are also a lot of folk who have worked in the oil & gas sector who have never liked the Super Puma.
That's not my point.
It's not political.
It's not directed at any oil or service company.
It's to us normal folk who go about in our vehicles day to day and regularly see warning lights go on... and then off... and choose to ignore it.. as it costs money to check out.
Please don't do that. Please check it out.
I'm waiting anxiously to see if nay friend / ex-colleagues are impacted.
