Important Pet Travel Scheme Update

As a customer who has previously travelled on Eurotunnel with your pet, we wanted to make you aware of DEFRA’s update on the Pet Travel Scheme if there is a ‘no deal’ Brexit.

DEFRA have today announced their recommendation that pet owners planning to travel immediately after 29th March 2019 contact their vet at least four months in advance of travel to check what they need to do.

For example, if you are travelling on 30th March 2019 the recommendation is that you visit your vet as soon as possible, and before the end of November 2018 at the latest.

DEFRA have advised that you will still be able to travel with your pet to Europe after Britain leaves the EU, however you may need to take some additional steps to allow your pet/s to travel in a ‘no deal’ scenario.

Stay up to date with the latest advice by visiting www.gov.uk and searching "pet travel". Updates will also be available at eurotunnel.com.

Yours sincerely,
Jo Willacy
Commercial Director

Vacation and passport is what I read, but I guess that’s already a thing (we had to with our doggo)?

hmmm says absolutely nothing...
It doesn't give the reasons for the change, but does suggest that travel with a pet to an EU country is likely to be a much more convoluted process in the even of a no deal Bre+it. I expect that the fear is that UK issued pet passports will no longer be recognised.

Well, yes. It most certainly will be...was an article on the news just last week.

Here we go again. Moan moan moan remoan. I suspect I'm going to regret even replying to this stupid thread. We won't be going anywhere after brex. You will need a passport (like you do now) , the dog will be eaten.!!!! Planes will fall out of the sky. English Campers will explode when they touch French soil. Give it a rest. Go on another forum with this shite

I find this 'Brx it' censorship soap more and more comparable to Japanese pixel porn.....

Still looking what could be behind this decision. And who on earth invented this Boris Bike??

On a lighter note Did this forum just change the word b r e and exit. To Boris bike? So it's OK to hate Boris bikes. I love people telling me what I can and can't say . Brilliant. Think I might move to china

What a bizzare post.

"Remoan" though..that's brilliant...you should try and get that going viral.

What's bizarre about it. It's about Boris bikes

I have 3 dogs & was planning to take them to the continent this year but I'm waiting to see what happens with passports. Pain as my arthritis is already worse & I'd have liked to big off somewhere warm.

Not been before, so it would be a big expense if the scheme changes.

We had the Eurotunnel email but also one from our vet explaining that the passports would not be valid and other evidence of anti rabies protection will be required with at least a 4 month lead time. You can bet whatever happens my vet here will require shedloads of money as will the French vet who is now charging 37€ for a tablet and the UK govt will want some too! Oh and Brittany Ferries will want in on it too for extra dosh! And tgen the kennels we use will be extra busy and expensive with all those pet iwners who have failed to put a 4 month lead time into their quick weekend away!

Hmmm, interesting - I live in Switzerland and I am planning to go to UK next year. Our dog has a British dog passport so it may be an issue going back into France from the UK. So it looks like I need to get our dog a Swiss pass and the rabies blood test in good time

Only in the event of a no deal Bre*it, and even then it depends on the deal of a no deal Bre*it, :headbang

Deal or no deal, Bre*it means Bre*it.

Back in 2005, when Tony Blair came to see Ian Paisley, leader of the DUP (now UK King-Makers) in the midst of the UK foot & mouth crisis. He proclaimed:

“Our people may be British, but our cows are Irish…”

I’ll best lobby my local DUP representatives, to ensure same sentiment for our dogs in the event of a no-deal :headbang

Although, the latest seems to be that there’s a “no-deal, deal” being put in-place, to cover this area.
