Before our Cali went to have the dreaded front panel and roof repair I was washing the vehicle ready for it's trip,when I noticed some roof rivets holding the roof rails had rusted ( some badly ) ! After a chat with VW was told it won't come under the warranty repair ! So rust killed them myself and they are black and just put paint lacquer on them ( all of them done) so far so good but be warned as this is another example of VW poor workmanship!
If you don't do anything, eventually they will rot away and bye bye roof rails as nothing holding them down,plus one costly £££££££££££££££££
