I was hoping for we could start a list of my favourite type of campsite, the ones with with a sea view?

Trewethett farm caravan site between Tintagel and Boscastle in Cornwall. You can park almost on the cliff edge and the views of Bossiney cove and surrounding headland are glorious!

Good luck finding a decent dry spell though!

Freshwater bay pembs no sea views but very close to a lovely dog friendly beach avoid if its wet as some of the pitches are on a slight slope and it does get muddy'

When visiting the Lighthouse Museum at Fraserbrurgh spent a night here large concrete basic toilet shower block old but clean cliff top pitches out to sea views.

We stayed at Freshwater East site for a few nights in August. It's a lovely site but as @parrot2 says, the grass pitches do get very muddy. When we were there the wardens had removed a lot of the grass pitches and as hardstandings became available they were helping people to move pitches.

We stayed at Trewethett Farm when we had our caravan - amazing views across the bay and right night to the coast path. As you would expect, it can get very windy as it's on the edge of the cliff.

Has anybody mentioned Shell Island between Harlech and Barmouth in North Wales. Gorgeous beach that seems to go on forever and enormous sand dunes which you can nearly camp in. No hook up www.shellisland.co.uk

3 Cliffs Bay on the Gower near Swansea has amazing views. Downside of great views from the top of the cliffs is that it is a bit of a walk down to the beach! Good deli shop on the site as well.

• Kinloch Campsite, Dunvegan, Isle of Skye.

Fortrose Bay campsite. On the Moray Firth, I mean almost IN the Moray Firth! Stunning, and if you're lucky you can watch the bottle nosed dolphins too
