Roof Bars. Sherpas Translift system, kayaks, similar to; but not the same as; Karitec.
This side loading German roofrack system includes Kayak cradles and Thule fittings plus some spare bits and pieces.
Currently on my Cali with Thule fittings {included} but could be fitted on any van or car with roof rails, fixing points, and a bit of diy.
The video link found on You Tube gives an idea of how the system works.
Load boats, surfboards, top box, bikes on the side, tie on and lift up and onto the top of roof. Lock on and off you go... Magic!!
