Hi. Fuel panic. Can I get diesel out of the cali to put in my car? I have 400 mile trip to do in the car and need some backup. Is siphoning possible? And if so how!

Just go to a garage early in the morning or very late at night and fill up. I got fuel this morning no problem at 0600 on my way to work. Got a lovely full tank of it. Might panic buy some beer later

I panic bought some tonic this afternoon, now need to work out how to syphon gin to mix with it later.

Diesel really does not taste nice and adding tonic does little to improve it!

The siphoning theory is straightforward- poke a tube in the tank, suck on the pipe and when it starts to flow drop the end into a receptacle (lower than the end of the pipe in the tank). Diesel doesn’t taste as good as petrol so if you use a clear tube you can cut the suction when the fluid nears the end. Some cars have baffles and the like in tanks which can cause a problem getting the tube down - not tried on the Cali. Used to do it all the time with me mum’s car when I was a kid so I could fuel my scrambler.

Doubt very much you would be able to do it in any reasonably modern vehicle

You can buy simple siphon pumps from places like screwfix to put into the line to avoid any fuel ingestion.

Most new vehicles have an anti siphon filler But it must be possible as there are so many people who miss fuel nowadays and the breakdown company that drains the fuel has to get the hose in the tank somehow.

We tried to get diesel out of ours to help a friend who needed some - and it's not possible! Thankfully we didn't use a fuel suction device, so no damage done!

The whole reason why there is an industry built up around mis fuelling is down to the fact is it’s not as simple as siphoning.
Accessing the tank to empty it is not straightforward hence trained specialists.
