Cali now sold
Anyone know if you can sell other vans on the Forums, For Sale section…?
The Hymer is going…

Your more than welcome to if you think our audience would be interested but I guess it will be mainly people looking for cali’s
There is only about half of us constantly wondering if we got the optimised than for our circumstances, so I think we'll all be fascinated.

Does your wife know? You’ll sell your Hymer within 24hrs, you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do.

There is a category for Other campervans :)
How long did you have it?

You ordering a Surf???

Wife wants me to keep the Hymer and order a Surf.
I’m not keen having an £80k van sitting on the drive most of the year, only coming out for the big trips.
Yes, it will be brilliant when we do a week in Holland in May and great when we do 3 weeks in Switzerland again this summer.
But I’m happy to hire something bigger for those trips if it keeps her happy…

In defence/support of the HymerCar, it is a great van (we had one 4 years ago). It’s very capable, comfy, completely self contained, you can stand up in it anywhere all the time, carry truckloads of kit etc………

But it’s never going to be as agile or multi purpose as a California.

All vans are a compromise and we have to make choices as we see fit…….. @soulstyledevon made the wrong choice for his needs in this case.

I will confess that sometimes (usually in a moment of weakness) I envy the ‘on site comfort’ :thumb

Yep, a wee tad envious of three aspects, the headroom, the in situ bed and the toilet. But then I look across the Road to my neighbours Hymer, which takes up most of his house frontage road space and consider if I’ld really take it for the weekly shop or would the dog be too keen on the smaller floor area to sleep on… nah, it’s what suits that matters, for us it’s the Cali.

Absolutely.
But for those lucky enough to be retired or semi retired. The Hymer is the better van for long/extended trips.

I used to be away (surfing usually) every other weekend.
But now I tend to go for the day (Thursday or a Friday) and come back or I might stay over for an early morning surf so I can get back home.
Weekends have become kids parties, tennis camp and other child related activities.
This is where a California would serve us better than the Hymer.

We will have another Hymer, once our little -un has left and gone to University or whatever he ends up doing, and me and mum have plenty of free time…

Have you tried selling back to hymer dealer

I did approach them this week. They made me chuckle with their offer.
I’m in no rush to sell.

You can’t buy this van anywhere at the minute, and it’s a long wait if you want one.

Sold my silver t6 joker on eBay, it’s always worth an ad on there and here as both are cheap to do.

Ask some of the other hymer dealers as they may have someone chasing them for one.

It took me a long time to get used to the Hymer/Ducato and I must admit a few times shortly after delivery I found myself muttering "what have I done".

Now, with 140 nights away in it and going somewhere most weeks I love it. The camping experience is hugely enhanced, the "popping off to the supermarket" is a pain in the proverbial and not being able to limbo under height barriers can be problematic at times.

This winter especially I have come to love it.For a few of those days I have actually lived in it, spending all day writing, video editing and reading, Just being able to make a cup of tea, access the fridge, cook when I like and wash pots up with instant hot water, all without having to move anything about, has been a blessing.

I can well understand where Mr @soulstyledevon is coming from though, if you are not living in it and using it mostly for driving around in then the Cali is totally supreme. Sadly for the @soulstyledevon household though, I can well see where Mrs @soulstyledevon is coming from  Tin hat job ....?

I won’t show her this message. She’s a bit upset with me at the minute.
She’s only done two short trips in the Hymer, and loves it.

The other option, hire out the Hymer and try and make it pay for itself.
I’m just not sure it’s worth the hassle. We’re far to busy with other things…
