Hi G@yz

Has anyone replaced the foam of the foldable mattress to for example visco elastic foam?

It's only 4mm

At starters it was ok. But with time the original foam got too soft.

Good question, and discussed on this forum before in length. I have replaced the OEM with Brandrup.... and I am not all that happy. Might go back to OEM again. Brandrup is a bit hard from my hips... a side sleeper. Individual preferences... and I usually like firm mattresses in general, so go figure. I do not know what a "4mm visco elastic foam" you are mentioning will do. ??

Thanks for your feedback. visco elastic is a type of foam. Similar to memory foam I guess

OK, then that might be an answer for me at least.... softening the surface and both still providing support. Please keep us posted as you go that route.

I bought a Duvalay 5cm FreshTec mattress to go on top of the standard VW ‘comfort’ mattress which I personally found uncomfortable, though my greyhound didn’t mind it. Vastly improved sleep and no sore hip in the morning (I’m also a side sleeper). It fits on top of the mattress on the rear shelf and whilst it takes up additional space, it’s not an issue for me as I don’t travel with anything on top of it. Picture below shows both the VW ‘comfort’ mattress and the Duvalay one stored.

As said, various threads covering this, an example:

For us, it's the Sea to Summit. Bit more of a faff inflating and deflating each day, but hard/soft can be adjusted to suit. We have a little camping pump to inflate quicker :thumb

I have the Calibed folding mattress. Compared to the VW Comfort mattress pictured by the OP, it's night and day. And I'm a side sleeper too. The full body support is so superior with the Calibed Prestige, which isn't surprising as its 2-3 cm thicker. Sold the comfort and never looked back.

Agreed. We keep ours in the roof, deflated with a camping duvet, having removed the original mattress from there. Gives us lots more space.
