Last weekend morning, I moved the car in order to wash the car. I directly started and moved to the place I specified. After washing, I didn’t start the car again for the whole day, until the next morning I started to go to work.
Then I started as usual and waited for 5~10 minutes. I lowered the handbrake and hit R gear to reverse, but the car did not move. I had to hit P again and then R again, and it still didn’t. Action, I had to switch to D gear and try to see if it would move. Unfortunately, it still didn’t move. After that, I hit R gear and increased the accelerator. The car moved, but there was a loud metal crashing sound. , It feels like something is being bounced off! I was shocked right now, so I kept watching the car for any abnormality when shifting gears along the way.
Fortunately, nothing happened in the past few days! But this experience makes me feel very bad, because I have never driven a DSG car, so I don’t know if it will have any adverse effects on DSG, even I don’t Know if I did something wrong that caused this situation.
Do you have a similar experience?
My car is T6.1 Beach Capmper DSG 150 5-seater

I hope everyone’s cars are as normal as usual

Has the van been stood for a while?
Sounds like maybe the handbrake had caused the brakes to stick on, the loud sound you heard would be the brake shoes releasing, this can happen if the van that has been stood for a while with the handbrake on.

Yes, the parking brake sticking on would be my guess as well. They do make a nasty noise when they eventually release and can make a noise when driving as the pads pass the point on the disc where they were stuck. However, that quickly passes.

+1 for brakes stuck on. Mine's a non-DSG but I find the brakes stick quite quickly after just a few days parked with the handbrake on. Nothing to worry about.

Yes, after washing, it was parked for one night!
Maybe it's like the situation you mentioned, but I don't understand why it's stuck like this~ but I will pay more attention next time, thank you for your reply!!

In fact, after reading your replies, I sincerely hope that the brakes are not released correctly, and the metal bounces and crashes!
The sound at the moment really scared me~

DSG really worries me a bit
I really like the fast feeling that DSG brings, but I am afraid that it will be damaged by my wrong use! I really love and hate DSG~
But after seeing your reply, I understand that it is not only DSG models that will have similar conditions. Now I feel relieved a lot. Thank you for your reply.

If I have just washed it I take it for a drive to dry the brakes

Don't worry about the DSG - we've had it on our car for about the last 6 years and it hasn't put a foot wrong in all that time. There really isn't a lot you can do wrong with it so relax and enjoy it!

I think I worry too much about the quality of VW DSG
I should believe in the quality of VW cars
Use it with confidence within the 5-year warranty!

Thank you for pointing out the key points
Suddenly it occurred to me that this time the car would get stuck. It should be because I left the car overnight after washing the car.
Before, I would drive out and run again, but this time I was washing the car at night, so I didn’t go out for a few laps!

Thank you so much~

100,000 miles in 6 yrs and the DSG is still performing faultlessly.

I have stopped using the handbrake on my driveway for parking. DSG in P mode, and all is good. No sticking brakes etc when driving away. I have to admit, my driveway is fairly level ... so that also helps.

Like the Americans. They always seem to just use P, except in San Francisco.

The parking pawl is fairly robust on most auto/DSG boxes these days I think. And certainly more reliable than a poorly adjusted handbrake anyway!

I did read once someone arguing that if you got nudged by another vehicle it would snap the pawl but my guess is that could happen if the parking brake was on in any case so what are you gonna do.

I owned a Touran DSG for 15 years. It was 100% reliable. I wouldn’t worry about the quality of DSG at all.

It's nice that the garage is flat
My garage happens to be a bit sloped
So I have to use the hand brake~
Thanks for your reply~
