T6.1 - Which engine skid protection, and why?

When it comes to engine protection, there are many options to chose from. How to decide? I'm based in Europe.

Some prefer flat metal plates while others favor more elaborate with 90 degree edges reaching up.

While I favor off-pavement exploration, they are still "roads" with roots, ruts, rocks, and crevices, but not gnarly 4x4 rock crawls.
I will be getting the Seikel Rock Sliders as I've already damaged the plastic, but not the full underbody coverage.
