Hi, all. can anyone tell me does the van act as a wifi hub when I connect my phone to it via wifi for things like car play Nav and music streaming etc so im not using my phone data ?
cheers

If the T7 works the way the 6.1 did, the answer is maybe.

Unless you have the data pack, which is not usually free or included, no.

If you do, yes, but...

The price of the data packs from VW is crackers. It's quicker, easier, cheaper and simpler to use your phone data.

They use cubic and the charges quite high. If abroad use one of the UK providers still allowing roaming such as O2.

So my phone data plan is crap and won't renew this year so i easily go through my data when on a trip, so maybe something like the Ryoko router would be better then as the vodaphone charges are a proper rip off £10.45 for a 1gb top up

Maybe. With a small router you can use any sim free plan you like, GiffGaff are o2 for instance and cost effective here (a tenner for 25GB) and abroad for data (5 of your 25 included).

We have unlimited data with a super old EE plan that they keep trying to get me to cancel so usually fine.

By the way, if you subscribe to Netflix premium you should look at the EE all rounder sims. Unlimited high quality 5g (I've tried all the others and they are worse) Inc European roaming for a sticker price of £42 a month. Deduct 18.99 as it includes Netflix premium and you're down to 23, then with some negotiating they will knock it down further and include a second SIM you can gift data to... Myself and my wife are effectively paying £13 a month each for unlimited 5g data and roaming, tethering works fine as well!

Yeah I'd definitely go for a separate data SIM or mobile router rather than VW's data packages - they're stupidly expensive for what you get. Even a basic unlimited data SIM from Three or similar will be way cheaper than those VW top-ups.

Thanks, does the infotainment system take an eSIM ?

Agreed. We use Scancom for unlimited 5G data (fair usage = 600 gig cap per month) on a prepay at around £169 for 17 months or so and pop this in our Three router. They are on Amazon too.

ohh, sounds good amazon here I come

Or they also do Vodafone and Three for similar prepay deals. Never had an issue and great UK telephone service in East Mids should you ever need it.

Don’t know if the Ryoko seems to good to be true at £9.99 a month plus the router cost of about £40. Also fit in my pocket for hiking and mountain biking where I often loose signal. This kind of portable device would be better for me, all suggestions welcome

Is it 5G dual-band? There is a huge gulf between 4G and 5G speeds. Good 4G is sufficient for most things, however when in poor coverage areas, I strongly getting a router that covers 4G and 5G. The other advantage of that old Three router is that I can plug my laptop in via cable for more stability, rather than relying on wi-fi. It is also Wi-fi 6 - so better bandwidth than many pocket-sized routers.

Horses for courses I guess. Amazon has some smaller 5G portable routers with USB chargers and great reviews that would also suffice.

Good advise, cheers. I’m off down the rabbit hole, are you in a bit
