Tailgate divider for chairs

I’ve got a bit of an annoying issue in the tailgate hatch. There is a grey divider (looks like it’s made of some sort of polystyrene polymer) that separates the two chairs in the tailgate.

This has become unstuck and frequently comes out of the tailgate when I remove one of the chairs.

It appears that all that is bonding it on is some sort of double sided tape. I can push it back in to place and it will hold temporarily, but in hot weather it comes loose again.

Has anyone else had this problem and if so what did you do to remedy it?

I suppose some sort of adhesive would be better but I’m not sure what would be best to use. It must get really hot in there so I guess something resistant to high temperatures would be good.

Any thoughts?

If under warranty take it in. They may change the whole rear door panel, if this is the case ask them to check the integrity of the high level brake light while the panel is off the tailgate and before fitting the new one.
Also leave your chairs at home make a bit of a fuss they may throw two new chairs in as well, happened to us.

Thanks Sandyvan.

Whilst it should be done under warranty I'd really rather not take the van in if it can be avoided.

Two early warranty issues were handled so badly (further damage caused by a dealer) that I'm keen to avoid visiting them if at all possible.

If I have to live with it then so be it, but I was hoping someone might have a suggestion that was an easy fix.

Would one of the sikaflex adhesives be worth considering?

I know what you mean about coming out with more faults than they go in with. But a fault is a fault. If you fix it, then it has to go it again say for water ingress through the high level brake light if the lens falls out.
They may say sorry this has been tampered with. Believe me I can fix most things but not when I have spent that amount, try a different dealer, or make the service manager your new best friend by impressing on them that physical harm will be bestowed upon them if it gets damaged.
Joking about the physical harm.

Ours came off after one use of the chairs and falls off every time now. A bit sloppy of VW, really.

Sounds exactly like ours. It really is a poor design.

Our first T6 was fine. I wonder if there is more penny pinching going on.

mine does this too. will buy some double sided tape.

I'm starting to think that TBH, the cynic in me thinks dare I say it Brexit, imagine the conversation (In German) Its going to England so don't worry it will do...

At least it's not just mine!

I was starting to think that maybe I had a "Friday afternoon after a liquid lunch" built van.

Its to be expected from a inexpensive vehicle ;) I still say they should be sold through independent national dealers or through the car outlet.

My mate and I were talking about this at the W/E as you do. If we had the funds to set up a super dealer undercut VW dealers, sell all the accessories have a campsite, technicians who care etc. etc. we would do it but alas its the cash that's lacking not the will.

Flying banana, It was a joke dude. Mind you I have not had a disagree for a while. I thought it was broken.

I think you'd do very well. A specialist California Centre would have no shortage of customers.

Proper old fashion customer service, people that really know the vehicles and care. Make just enough profit to make it viable I can only dream...

It’s not good that you get a warranty and are reluctant to use it because of bad experience ...some dealers are total asses

Same happened to me after first use of a second hand T6. At least i know what it is. With 3 months warranty left, I'll consider the first advice.

Why not go to another dealer? I bought mine from Bilbos , went to SMG for some issues and get it serviced just down the road at Martins Commercial. All seemed very happy to do the work

Didn't realise that there is supposed to be a divider - mine is missing. Does anyone have a part number please?

Me neither but I’m assuming mine is missing as I have a sticky patch where I assume it should be

Think I found the part number - 7E7867129 - will order one to see if it stops the chairs squeaking

Getting my DSG serviced and cam belt done today will ask about it when there and order one.

Used black heavy duty velcro about 3yrs ago on ours, no problems since

Mine came off at the weekend. I just placed it back on as both sides were sticky - it hasnt come off since but will keep my on it

I’ve ordered one from my local van centre. £10 ish plus vat and should be with me in a week or so
