Hi all my back window was smashed by a thug last night could anyone tell me please I know its tinted but do I have to buy it from VW thanks in advance

Was anything taken? I'd contact the glass replacement provider in your insurance booklet.

You could stipulate that the glass be a genuine VW replacement, although there may be an additional charge for this.

I'd go the VW route to ensure that glass is an exact match.

Once had a Merc passenger window smashed in and got a 'Windscreen' replacement outfit to do it. It turned out that they didn't stock it and bought one from Mercedes. Was cheaper than the Mercedes quote for the same glass etc??

Yes you need to check spec of window, If newish Ocean and does not have rear screen heating, then is probably double glazed.

I would always go the genuine VW route.

Thank you all it is heated and double glazed and the window company said they dont do them for the Cali when I rang vw they said a California tailgate window is a special glass so going there paid the £548 which my insurance will reimburse when I send them the invoice will be fitted on Thursday vw also said if it hadn't been double glazed it would have left a large gaping hole instead of a small round hole looks like a bullet hole

Are you sure it’s heated? I thought the double glazing negated the need for heating.

If its double glazed then there is no heated screen.

If my house burnt down, i hope my insurance company won't
say - get a new one built and give us the receipt

Hi blondebier it was meant to read it's not heated like I thought lol and nothing was taken
My insurance lv says because I want to use vw and not auto glass I will need to pay for it then send them the invoice so will do on Thursday. regards Jean

Does a non vw part even exist in the double glazed Version? I doubt i given the tiny volumes (unless it’s used in the caravelle)

I suspect Vw won’t be doing the fitting with their own staff. I’m sure they’ll use a specialist.
