I had a splitty many years ago and bought my t5.1 Cali about 6 months ago. I absolutely love her, not one regret. Wish I'd been able to do it sooner tbh.
I did lots and lots of research and reading, and like you, was on a budget. There's tonnes of great advice on here in terms of narrowing down your choices and configuration options - and of course all the views and advice on known issues etc.
My budget inevitably stretched, and I made compromises to my original wish list to buy quite a basic but really well maintained van. For me, that service history and minimal ownership from new was worth more than some of the bells and whistles (but not the multi function steering wheel - oh how i miss that!).
