Tow bar bike rack

Has anyone used the bak-take bike rack?

Doesn't look as though a tailgate would clear it. It also looks like it would be very difficult to get multiple bikes secured properly, especially at the bottom where there is no bar. Also it would only really work with bikes that have a horizontal or near horizontal top tube i.e. no 'amsterdam' style bikes unless you install an artificial top tube. Not my idea of secure bike transport.

I have a bak-rak that came with van. Never actually tried it as we have a atera cycle carrier.
I've looked at it for the bikes but think the atera is better for security.
