Hi
We are about to embark on our first holiday away.
We have a California Beach (Feb 15) and we've never check the tyre pressure. We were about to do it today but confused about the correct pressure that they need to be at.
Our tyres are 215/65R 16C 106/104T and the table on the chassis gives information about 102/101T only. Is there a difference in pressure? Also ... is it really necessary to check pressure or can we just rely on the pressure monitor?
Kind regards
Monica

You need the 2nd row from top .

106/104 is load index meaning weigth of the verhicle not the tyre pressure
T is speed index
(Correct me if wrong)
The max tyre pressure should be marked on the tyre also
Always in cold themp. Meaning before you drive off. Not afther a 2hdrive on the motorway.
I tend to give them a bit more pressure but i got standard steels and "Cargo" tyres witch are disinged for heavy loads.
Don't know the brand and type of your tyres...

One thing , even with a socalled pressure monitor on your dash , do try and check your tyres more frequent than afther 1,5y.
Also checking profile , damage and the inside wall of the tyre needs to done regular as cars now a days only goes to a deler/garage every 2 y.
Just my 50cent.....i find tyres pretty important .

On a similar subject, I have just had to replace the two front tyres on my 2015 Cali yesterday. The tyre pressure warning light has now come on The book says to reset it using the button on the centre panel, it's all very clear except that I don't seem to have the button. Anyone have any ideas please?

It's an option in the MFD display. It's buried in one of the menus - have a play and you will find it

Thank you, I'll have a go in the morning.

Jeeeeeezzz!!!

As HC said, 2nd from the top

but:

Can I suggest you make it a regular habit to check, perhaps every couple of times you fill up?

I use my local garage, ( it is recommended not to drive more than 2.5k from cold when checking) so choose a garage within this distance. It is a digital readout, set the pressure on the pump, press the adaptor on to the tyre valve, wait for it to beep. Takes about 2 minutes and may save a catastrophic deflation.

I will not go anywhere that is fast and long distance without checking. Apart from anything else it is also a good opportunity to just check the tyres. I noticed a nail in my Sister's front nearside tyre the other day whilst borrowing her car and deciding to check the tyres. I shudder to think what might have happened if that decided to pop out at 70mph.

If you have a multi function steering wheel you can easily access the MFD display, if you don't, like me, you might find this note sent by Welsh Gas when I had the same problem and the handbook was no help.

Also a gentle reminder, but tyres degrade over time due to UV light and temperature variations. It may be more important to check low milage tyres frequently because although the tread may look unworn the side walls can crack significantly. Not a problem in tyres averaging 10,000+ miles a year as the tread will wear to illegal limits first.

There are a few tyre/pressure related thread but since this is the latest according to the search here goes.

To keep a long story short the TPMS is working, I chose to ignore it. Later found that one of the rear nearside is slowly deflating, it was down to 23.5psi !. I believe it's been like this since collection. It's not a puncture, at least I don't think it is. I'm guessing I need a plunge pool to check if its the valve (internal or other) or the wheel.

Rang the dealer to book in but not sure if this is the best idea. Wondering should I go to a specialist i.e.a tyre dealer like Costco? Suggestions?

Surely lnflate it to the correct pressure yourself and monitor it for a few days.
A VW dealer would be the very last place I would go with this sort of problem.
If it is a puncture it won't be covered by warranty. So a tyre specialist is your best bet.

Specialist tyre dealer, Costco (That is an oxymoron) :)

Have you used them before?
I have and the chaps that I deal with seem very professional and know there stuff. Seem to be well trained.

I wouldn't use Quik-fit but have used ATS in the past.

I have been in ours (Bristol) a few times and asked some pointed questions and wasn't overly impressed with the answers.
The main thing that annoyed me about them was the "make a booking and leave the car with us, we will go over the whole car and tell you what needs attention" approach rather than a more practical "Sure we can change the tyres while you shop" that I was expecting.

Have fitted these to Loz Jr's tyres.

They go amber with a 3psi drop then red so he can easily see at a glance if he needs to ask me to check them..

May depends on who you get I know at least one in my local Costco did have his own tyre business before joining Costco. Not had any real issues, I know they will not change over winter tyres unless you have bought the tyres there, insurance apparently. They will change wheels and tyres just not swap rims.

Hi Monica, is your climabox still available please?cant reply on other thread not sure why thanks

Yes it belongs to a 2015 Beach (T5) and it includes plate to fix to floor rails. It is dark grey. I can take pictures when I get home. It is immaculate as we got it from VW in Oct (replacement for our original climabox which broke)
I don't mind posting or you can arrange courier to collect. Not sure how much these go for (I need to do some research). What is your offer please?
