The VW California Coast is bascially a cut down version of the Ocean, the main difference is it has a manual roof just like the Beach.

It still has a full Kitchen and cupboards just like the Ocean and choice of engines from 102ps up to 204ps 4Motion.

The other options that do not come as standard are:
Power latching tailgate
Power latching side door
Body Coloured Mirrors
Fog Lights
Aux Heater
Heated front seats

Also there is a choice of cupboard colour ( dark wood or white ) and choice of flooring ( std grey or wood effect)

So, if this was available in the UK in RHD would you consider it?

Yes,
but not for another 5 years now. if it was already here our replacement from our 5 to 6 would have been a coast sometimes less is more

I reckon if there was another choice it would be researched and considered, daft not to IMO. Would consider the Merc too if I was in the market.

..me..

I considered buying a RHD Coast, from the Republic of Ireland where is it available. However, we ended up going with the Beach, albeit with quite a lot of extras added. I don't think the Coast comes standard with double-glazing, heated front seats and/or an overnight heater. Even with these added, there is some savings over the Ocean spec.

In the end, we decided the Beach was right for us..... But if we decide to go in the direction of the Ocean in future, then the Coast would certainly fulfil all our requirements.

Having now owned our Beach for a few weeks, and enjoyed a couple of weekends away.... We are more than happy with our original decision, mainly because we prefer to wild-camp, eat-out in pubs etc.... And it's also our daily driver.

manual roof would be something I would have liked but the spec of a Coast simply does not match the Cali SE (now Ocean) and I'd end up having to add in lots of options
but I suppose that's reflected in the price - any ideas of price differential as that's most likely to be a key factor

Yes, would have considered it.

Would mostly appreciate the manual roof option, but it would have to have the heater (or at least as a reasonably priced option).

If ALL the Standard and Options, apart from the Electro-Hydraulic Roof , of the Ocean were available and it came in about £3-4,000 less than the same specced Ocean, then Yes.

Yes for me - I hate the electric roof on my T5 it feels like a real weak spot - but like Alibee says, it must have a heater :thumb. Would I care that Lost the electric soft closes? - not really!

Would be a contender for me.

An example approx. figure for a base Coast would be:

(This is BEFORE discount)

102PS Manual £42,700

150PS DSG £47,395

204PS DSG 4Motion £54,295

Aux Heater add on is £1695

Red Roof Canvas Add on £275

You can get a t5 / t6 specific Eberspacher fitted for about a £1000 brand new at an agent - would probably be easier to fix than a factory fit option and controls if it ever went wrong too!

so is the shop looking at importing via Eire

We would certainly be very interested in a coast with a manual roof.

The electric roof is fine when in warranty but outside of warranty it scares the life out of me everytime I close it.

Also with the coast you have different choice of bellows colour, flooring and cabinet colours.

But no 3 year warranty with it, not that they are prone to failure if used regularly.

We have been approached and if the interest is there we would happily look into this further, it is quite a complex process but is certianly possible to do as our contact specialises in VW export

Would it be available in the club shop at 10% discount to VIP Members? :shocked

Oh,

and no would be my reply. The Ocean suits me perfectly.

I think VW are missing a trick not to bring the Coast to the uk. If a Coast cost the same as our Ocean for a near same spec with a saving for manual roof I would be happy to go than than way. Although I have not had issues with electric roof I could live without one and the thought of issues out of warranty.

In France the Coast is a very good deal. About 7.000 euros cheaper than the Ocean, including the electric roof, parking heater and parkpilot.

Agreed, I would also have gone for the coast , love the idea of the manual roof, I am assuming you can then just spec it up to Ocean standard.

So a Base Coast 204 DSG 4 Motion with Heater is £ 55,900 and a base Ocean, same engine is £57,440.

So £1,500 for Power Latching, Fog Lights, Heated Seats , colour coded mirrors and Hydraulic Roof.
Also there appear to be other differences that may not be available as cost options.

Based on the above the Coast seems overpriced compared with the Ocean, in the UK.

Just my personal opinion.

Good point but I think a lot of people would go for the entry level 102ps as it would be a cheap way to get a Cali with a kitchen? With average discount you would be looking at just over £39k

Well spotted WG. These prices are totally unconfirmed, we are just gauging the interest so we can go back to them and get some solid prices.

Also, just to confirm we have no intention of selling California's :stop

What length warranty would you get on a "grey import"?
