Watching Movies with Anker Nebula Projector

About 5 years ago we bought an Anker Nebula projector for our Defender, along with a collapsible screen. We could use outside or in, though outside the bugs want to be onscreen.


Now we have an Ocean, and project directly on the blackout blind. It's not as crisp as a white screen, but more than adequate and super convenient.


Although you can download about 8 movies into the projector's memory via wifi, we just run a USBC >> HDMI cable from the phone to the unit. So lots more options.


The projectors have gone up in price (and lumens), but still worthwhile when traveling. It's about the size of a normal can of coke or beer, and recharges via USB. A single charge lasts ~4 hours, and it can be charged while using.

Can you use bbc iPlayer and skygo by using the phone in this way - I understand they are not accessible via nebula? Thanks

If you can get a cable that projects from your phone to HDMI (like to a TV), it should work.

I use a Nebula projector too. This is a good way of getting a better quality screen set up.

Just purchased a nebular max last week .Contacted nebula support and they have added me to be a beta tester I can now download from playstore and have additional apps downloaded and works a treat.

No SkyGo from any device can be projected, fed or used via a wire.
Has to be used on iPhone / iPad / smartphone or laptop.
Sky suck.
I have to use a UK sim in a dongal to watch sky in EU via wifi to my iPhone or laptop.

Apple do two digital av connectors, one for lightning (plug into your iPhone) and one where usb-c is the input (which would be all newish iPads). Then you need a £2 short hdmi cable from amazon.

This means you can play sky or bbc iplayer on a projector or anything with a hdmi input like your tv.

This is the phone connector.

Sure. I was looking into those.

For me, the built in blind is totally fine and I don't need to carry any extra gear. Also, we prefer sitting across from each other where wife gets the full couch and I sit in driver's chair with my feet and dog on passenger seat.

It's nice we can get what suits us

I’ve tried it.
SkyGo on iPhone will not go via these methods.
If you can get it working, please upload photos.
My phone says external display output blocked.

Amazon Fire Stick is the way to go IMHO. Can watch pretty much anything apart from Sky Go, (but can use Sky Now if you really need to).. Various VPNs are also available in the app store for use in Europe, and locally saved content on PC or phone can be streamed too. All the UK streaming apps are supported including Netflix, Apple TV, Disney etc.

Do you use the Firestick in the Nebula?

Once used my Firestick to watch 2x rugby matches on a TV in another van in Scandinavia which sucked up about 7gb each, but then ran out of roaming data for the rest of the month. My roaming data has increased from 20gb to 30gb, which is fine for regular use, but not for streaming when traveling for awhile.

When traveling in Europe, Asia, and Africa, we use our Firestick at hotels/Airbnb.

We've gad one of these for quite a long time and they're great. There can be some issues with digital rights management with some content refusing to show picture (audio tends to be fine) via HDMI.

We usually have a wifi hotspot and connecting an iPhone and Nebula to the same wifi signal can allow screen mirroring which overcomes the content protection on some occasions.

The secret is not to promise any young children a particular show/movie until you have tested that it works OK to avoid tears and tantrums before bed!!
