Where's My Van?!!!

For security reasons won't name the town as am alone in creepy vw vans service area of a French town on the way to Sicily! 3x limp mode within 1 1/2 hrs. This happened in France last year and was supposed to have been fixed. No warning lights or anything- am about to read thread on limp mode :(

No good news , hope the French VW mecanics can fix it.
Fingers Xsed

Does anyone know if there is any reason this always happens to me in France- is it the fuel here or is it just driving faster for longer? This is the third time it has happened. The first time 2 years ago I thought it was just my imagination or I was going up a much steeper hill than I thought or my foot had touched the brake accidentally as the breakdown guy found nothing wrong and it drove fine after. It happened again last year and I knew it wasn't my imagination but drove again fine after a break. Vw service replaced/ repaired a turbo something after I told them what had happened. After it happening 3 times today I gave up and phoned AA. It's dangerous on a motorway when your max speed is under 60 ( and slower uphill) especially when it happens suddenly. So here I am at 'Camping Paradis' for the night -as the breakdown guy joked!

Not good! I had a similar thing happen in a VW Passatt on the way back from Geneva a few years ago. Very strange, went into limp mode, parked up for an hour or so and OK again for two/three hours then did it again. Fuel was the official reason for the trouble but there are other reasons too. Here is an in depth/interesting link about VW limp modes including most common causes. Some of its rather techy but some is straight forward stuff. Not sure if it will help but just in case.

All the best and hope you get to enjoy the rest of your holiday.

Thanks, they are arriving at 7am tomorrow and I guess they will plug in the diagnostic thing then. If they manage to fix it quickly I might still make the ferry from Genoa. Although I didn't mean to spend the night in an industrial estate in France (I was supposed to have reached Annecy) I am quite cosy, with much needed wine, M &S treats and watching 'Italy Unpacked' on DVD. I may even try out my new 12v shower and vw shower tent at 6am.... maybe!

Ask them to check the turbo vane mechanism and if possible take the inlet hose off and give it a good spray with brake cleaner and work the turbo vane mechanism to make sure it is moving freely.
