Which oil?

T6.1 Ocean 150
2024 Ocean 150 DSG. Doesn’t need a top up but like to carry a spare litre in case. Under bonnet sticker says the usual 504 00 / 507 00, but says 0W/30.
I’m sure my previous T6 said 05W/30. If it has to be 0W/30 then Shell Ultra Pro seems the easiest to obtain, I’ve always used Castrol Edge in the past. Am I over thinking this?!

0w/30 outperforms 5w/30 - the former has a better temperature range in the lower rating (stays more viscous at lower temp without affecting upper temp viscosity when the engine is cold, upto 30deg C ambient)

VW changed all dealers over to 0w/30 where 5w/30 was previously specified,

The important bit is the 504/507 spec , that shows it meets or exceeds the manufacturer requirements.

Easy to over think it, plenty of lesser brands will exceed the requirements
VW dealers use Quantum, which is quite a bit cheaper than the "Premium " oil brands

Bought some Shell Ultra 0W 30, VW 504 00 / 507 00. The engine bay sticker is clear that it should be 0W (not 5W). I do wonder if the dealers are that fussy when it comes to it, and just fill with a 504 / 507 oil with the biggest margin. It’s why DIY makes sense out of warranty so you know exactly what’s in there.

I had a look under the bonnet and confirm there is a white sticker saying 0w/30. Oh well, if my engine ever blows up I can point out my VW service station used the wrong oil.

I'm due a service next month, I'll see if the invoice states what make etc.

T6.1 should be running 0w/30 as per the spec , T6 or older either oil so long as it meets the 504/507 standard.

@Mansfieldman750 Be interested to see what response you got from the dealer via email, as to "why they have used the incorrect oil, which is not to the Manufacturer spec for your vehicle, when you have paid a Msin dealer to service the vehicle as per the manufacturers standards"?

Possible credit for the oil ?

I certainly need to find out which oil they actually used.
If I put my reg in on Halfords website the recommended oil is Shell Helix Ultra 0w 30
Castrol Edge 5w 30 comes up as unsuitable for this engine.

Your invoice says what oil was used , if they didn't use the oil on the invoice !
Is that Fraud ? Dealer between rock and a hard place IMO.

IMO you'll get the dealer mumbling about the 504/507 spec, but oil has rating for viscosity that differ but still can meet the 504/507 spec so don't fall for that. The manufacturer specifies what viscosity oil is to be used, (within the 504/507 spec) the dealer agrees to VW terms END of discussion.
Dealer has provided wrong oil for your vehicle and has provided paperwork to prove it!

IMO you should ask for the incorrect oil to be removed , new filter and correct oil added. (With a video of it being drained out )

I don't think your engine will suffer any harm in the short term

I’ll see what they say. It’s confusing. Castrol have introduced Edge 0w 30 but it doesn’t seem to be 504/507 approved and Halfords don’t sell it. You can get it on Amazon.
Anyway am away in van, will follow up when back.

Your is Edge long life 2 - they do do 0w/30 !
