Travelling through France a month ago, we noticed what appeared to be whole-van nets. They also cover their fruit trees with what appears to be the same stuff. It occurred to us that this might be the best solution for Scotland - just drape the whole van with the correct grade netting.

Anyone tried this?

Scottish midges are really tiny little bu&gers! The mesh will probably be too open. Best thing to do is only camp in windy places! (not that difficult in Scotland). Also a fine enough mesh will tear very easily and surely a bit tricky to get in and out once the whole van is covered.

Proper "midge grade" mesh isn't super cheap either. If you were desperate for a midge-free space, I would be more inclined to think up some sort of "awning" made out of midge netting with a zipped entrance and magnetic (?) joining to the sliding door opening?
