Hello All
Have looked at used and demo vans and decided to put up with long lead times to get a new one with the options I (think) I want. After all their little difference in price and new may be cheaper, like for like.
I have ordered 140, DSG with:
  • LED lights
  • Laminated Glass with rear privacy
  • Discover Sat Nav
  • Rear camera
  • Lights and vision package
  • Elec sliding door
  • Heated windscreen
  • Multifunction wheel
  • High beam assist
  • Adaptive CC
Will be using it as my car plus trips with wife and/or Grandkids plus a lot of weekends in the hills with dog. My children will no doubt be borrowing it too.

So, I'd really appreciate your advice on the value for money and use of the options I've chosen especially how good is the Sat Nav and use of ACC.

I haven't included an awning as I had a Westfalia Nugget (Transit based) for 3 years and used the one on that on 3 occasions as we had a drive away when on site.
I'm also toying with the heavy duty anti-roll bars and would welcome advice please.

Given the usage some interior protection seems essential. The dealer is offering a comprehensive package called Pro-tec and I wonder if anyone has used that or are there better alternatives?

Sorry this is so long and thanks in advance for any advice you are able to give.

Is it an Ocean or a Beach you have ordered?
Do you mean a 150 because the 140 is now discontinued.
As for what options, as many opinions as forum members.
What is absolutely essential for one person is a waste of money to another, buy what you are happy with:thumb

Whoops - sorry, it will be a 150 Ocean.

Lots of questions Alan and to be honest they have all been discussed at length and a search will pull up the threads and what Snowy says is bang on.
I would go for the heavy duty bars as they are a small price to pay for the stability however I've not driven one without them.
Even interior protection is difficult issue. As an example mine has the Alcantara but it's going to be just me and the wife. So my plan is to add a good quality protection system. Choice is then between the dealership? Or a specialist? I will go for the specialist. On occasions Cali will get used by myself and two of my lads for biking weekends. On these occasions I've got some waterproof covers to slip on. So it's horses for courses.

I don't think you will regret adding heavy duty anti-roll bars to the list.

On a test drive with a T5 140 SE w/o heavy duty anti-roll bars my passengers felt travel sick and no complaints from the same passengers with a T6 Ocean with the heavy duty bars.

I am still not 100% happy with the suspension setup as there is think there is room for further improvement regarding roll however the options to upgrade the Cali further are many and can be expensive (upto 5k). I have analysis paralysis on further upgrades but the anti roll bars have taken away the urgency and possibly the need for further upgrade.

We decided against the dealer offered protection as it seemed very pricey at about £400. Looked at specialist for about half that. In the end we didn't bother. Seat covers and twenty quid set of carpets that will get renewed when they are worn out.

I agree with most here...Heavy duty anti roll bars...reduce roll on corners ans especially roundabouts.

You may otr may not want to consider Cruise control and or high beam assist...automatically dips high beam for oncoming vehicles then re-sets to high when clear...saves fumbling at night.

Hello and thanks.
I have chosen High Beam Assist and Adaptive CC. If you have the heavy-duty anti roll bars can you confirm that they make no difference to the comfort of the standard suspension ie how hard/soft it is?

Since you are using as you car I would spec the HD anti-roll bars. I have them and they seem to do a good job. Although I've not tested side by side. The feeling will depend on what you drive now, if you have a sports car you may need to do more to get the ride you want.

SATNAV is expensive option, nice to have but not essential. There are after market solutions AppConnect being one. Just make sure the phone, if Android, is at the correct level for support.

No mention of F&R parking sensors, but camera mentioned, I assume that means you have both, either way get them added. Camera has been really good, odd at first but very intuitive quickly.

I like the ACC but others think it's another expensive option, I find it very good for long drives makes it all more relaxed.
Only thing I've not tested yet is the high beam assist, just opportunity yet, find it a bit scary, would hate to blind some poor bugger.

HD Roll bars still give it a comfy ride at least on mine ;-)
When going over sleeping policemen if feels more bouncy to me, compared to departing XC60.

Too late for me and my order, but how well does high beam assist work on the Cali? I have it on my current car and I don't like it so disabled it. I found it hangs on to high beam for too long. I consider myself a considerate driver so as soon as I see the loom of highlights approaching, sometimes from around a bend, I dip my lights.

Often when I'm blinded by an approaching car I find its typically something high-end like a Range Rover or Merc - I wonder if they're relying on their high-beam assist too? :talktothehand

My first experience of having it on a Cali and after two drives at night on country roads I find that like you I would dip earlier. Would I spec it again, probably not but the jury's still out.

When i was speccing ours the general consensus was that the electric sliding door was a waste of money and potentially troublesome.
Does the standard door still electric assist closure?
We have been happy with this.

As has been said previously, all options are subject to taste and needs. As a dad of three kids the electric door has been a brilliant option. Safer closing and I can remotely open to let them in when I have my hands full. Love it!

It does indeed but some of us are having intermittent issues.

Must be something significantly different on the T6 because HD Anti Roll bars were available on the T5.1 when I ordered mine and barely got a mention, and yet it seems to be a requirement for the T6.
I don't have excessive Roll on my SE. It sticks to the road on bends with very little Roll but then it is loaded all the time apart from water.
Car sickness is not due to excessive Roll but due to a mismatch in motion signals between the middle ear and visual signals and none of my passengers have ever complained of the ride quality when in the rear.

I'd be interested to know how many people recommending HD ARBs for the T6 have actually driven one with the standard ARBs .

I've got the standard ones and can't say I've noticed excess roll. And my previous vehicle was a Subaru Impreza which really didn't roll much!

They weren't an option in 2012 so must have been added in the later years.
Always an option in Germany.
Roll is definitely reduced with the HD ARBs, I retrofitted just the rear to mine (2012 SE) and there was a marked improvement. My daughter suffers from car sickness and it definitely helped her feel less green so unless the ARB upgrade acted like a weird placebo then I'll dare to suggest she has defied your medical explanation.

Personally I think it's a no brainier to spec them. Improves the handling, both ride quality and safety with zero detriment to comfort. They SHOULD be standard on such a top heavy beast but then that wouldn't make VW extra few hundred £s would it!

Not my "Medical Explanation" just the general consensus from those who have researched the problem. Look out the window instead of reading or staring at a screen then symptoms will resolve.

Never had auto or CC in any previous car, but wow -DSG and ACC are a match made in heaven.

I hear a lot of people say "no clatter" with the T6 whereas with the T5 there is a bit when going over bumps. My T5 has no anti roll bars.

My passengers do not suffer with motion sickness, they are not allowed, the handling on bends is immaculate apart from half the contents of the cutlery drawer emptying itself all over the rear once (tip: Check doors closed securely) and I can vouch for it's off road handling without HD roll bars.

However, to misquote George Mallory, I would have HD bars "because it's there".
