We haven’t bought our Cali yet, but that won’t stop me looking for accessories.

I not a natural camper, so anything for an easy life e.g. I’m lazy! Therefore when I read on here about the Quechua Base as an alternative to an awning I thought that it would be the tent for me...trouble is it’s discontinued and on eBay they go for top dollar.

I’ve had a good look around for pop-up alternatives, but the only thing I could find is a soon to be released product by a company called ‘Cinch’...does anyone have any experience with their products?

I’ve had a look on their website and they appear to specialise in smaller pop up tents, but that is soon to change when on 12th March 2018 they launch a new bigger tent...The Pod.

Looking at the images it seems very similar to the Quechua Base, so once it’s launched on Indigogo, I’ll then be able to see if it could be a genuine alternative.

For the moment though, I’d appreciate it if anyone could point out any other options?

As promised the new range of tents includes the Quechua Base alternative, which Cinch! call the Pod...you’ll notice the similarities between the two tents, I think the sizes are similar too.

The price for the next 24hours is $275, which according to current exchange rates is roughly £200.

It’s a bit more than the old Quechua Base, but Cinch! seem to include a ground sheet. The price then goes up $50 for the following 29 days when the campaign closes.

I’m going to back the campaign as it looks a decent lightweight alternative for folk who don’t want an awning, but still need somewhere to store kit whilst on camp sites.

It’s looks exactly the same.
Nice find

This one has four doors, my Quechua Base only has two, otherwise looks the same.

Update: Apparently they had to change the name of the POD, to the HUB, due to a trademark issue!

I've just backed this campaign, hoping I actually get a hub....:Nailbiting

When I first got my beach these were in Decathalon and sold like hot cakes I never managed to get one. It's good to see someone filling the spot, perhaps its the same manufacturer?

The extra door versatility is a great addition too, our Outdoor Rev has multiple door configs and its absolutely superb, especially if weather or wind changes.

Probably worth bearing in mind a tiny number of users having issues with (a minority of) campsites not allowing the Base as awnings. Probably still one of the most popular addon to a camper out there and surprises me massively that Decathalon never made anymore. I think their business model is that unmet demand is far more preferable to unsold stock. :)

Cinch! state in their marketing that although this is a campaign through Indiegogo they will give a full refund if they cannot fulfil the order, so you will be okay.

I’m quite looking forward to getting our Hub so hopefully it will arrive before summer, as it will not only make a great addition to the van but also a nice huge beach tent too.

I think Decathlon replaced the Base with their air beam equivalent, but not only is it a totally different product the user reviews are poor.

The Base still commands a hefty used price on eBay, which is why I like the look of the Cinch! Hub as an alternative for a similar cost. Trouble is they only sell and manufacture once per year by the looks of it, so just four days remaining to order in 2018.

Did anyone take delivery of one of these? Interested to hear how you got on? Cinch website says September delivery available if you order now and whilst £250 seems steep, it’s pretty similar to the inflated eBay prices that used Base seconds are selling for.

The Cinch! Hub is due for delivery in mid September, which is the third delivery date so far since I backed the campaign. Apparently the tents are almost ready to be shipped, but the shipping from China will take a while :mute

To be honest, I was quite disappointed not to have the tent for the school holidays, so much so I’ve had to go out and buy an proper awning as an alternative.

When the Hub finally arrives I will post some photos and a video of me trying to get it back into its bag ;)

Same here, not expected until September and have had to buy an alternative to use this summer. Hope it's going to be worth the wait.

It’s disappointing, but I guess that’s the risk with crowd funding...at least we haven’t lost our money!

I got the Khyam Dub Hub as an interim measure and so far I’m quite impressed. Very easy to set up and I hope that the Hub works just as well or better.

Hope they turn up on time and meet the hype. I’ll look forward to hearing about them. I do think it’s slightly ominous that they haven’t posted on any of their social media outlets for over a month when previously they seemed to post multiple times each week.

Are there really that many people looking to bag a bargain.

I bought a Decathlon Arpenaz base M, it’s a pretty good shelter tent currently storing all our clothes, ruck sacks, bike helmets, beach stuff and some food on our current trip to France. It’s footprint is 2.5m x 2.5m which makes it is a good size for us to sit and eat our dinner in should the weather turn nasty. It doesn’t pop up like the base seconds tent but I find them a right faff to put away and it goes up in less than 5 mins. It also makes a good changing room and when packed up isn’t very big about the same size as a bulky sleeping bag rolled up and it weight 7.5kg.

I’d wondered about this. Is it literally just two poles and peg it out?

I queried the change in delivery dates and received an email on 19th July explaining the situation, not that I’m happy about it, but at least they replied. It’s not their first campaign, but it’s the first year they have sold the Hub as part of their pop up range.

I don’t think they are particularly cheap, but the concept of the largest pop up tents has no doubt captured the imagination.

I just wanted the Quechua Base, so the Cinch! Hub seemed a suitable alternative.

As for the numbers, that’s through Indiegogo, so it is what it is really. I suspect most of the sales were for their tent range rather than the Hub.

That’s it two poles and it’s up, peg the corners and then the four guy lines if necessary.

I had a cinch tent in my camping days and it was brilliant, I bought the 4 man version and couldn't fault it, you get everything you need in the bag. It's well easy to put up on your own but practice in a private area where nobody can see you first to take it down and fold back up again because there is a knack to doing it and if you cock it up on a campsite wiv people around, you wil be providing the days entertainment. Seriously tho they are well put together, very waterproof and well sealed for the night time. Altho I had the 4 man it would be a bit of a squeeze but ther was only me and my dog and I had loads of room. I had a Honda accord estate in those days and it just layed flat in the boot. When I put it up for private sale I sold it within a few days of advertising it. You can't buy them in the shops and they only sell once or twice a year so if you are thinking of getting one get your order in quickly cos they soon go. Hope this helps.

Would you believe that I still haven’t received my Cinch! Hub...I am due delivery in late April, which would make it 14 months from order! Along the way there have been lots of false promises and so many excuses...the latest was the delivery was delayed due to Chinese New Year

I’m still waiting too, let’s hope it’s worth it. . Think it should arrive just after a big trip away, oh well it means I’ll have to fit in another trip just to try it out.
