I use a long cable and padlock, windsurf shops sell them to lock up boards. Either wind round the bike rack or more securely to the towing eye under the bumper.
As long as its not a muddy mtb I quite often put the bike inside now. With the Beach a bike can sit on top of the multiflex board. You do need to move the seat forward a few stops to get extra space. Front wheel needs to come off but I can get even a long TT bike there.
Where do you do your weekend rides Shaun? We've got some regular routes that are out to Fordingbridge / Ringwood area. Usually involving a coffee stop in Hyde :D I'm imagining the fords down there have quite a bit of water in them at the moment though.

Hi Owen

Thanks for reply, Been cycling over the Purbecks at the weekends at the minute as i'm doing the Tour Of Wessex and need the hills also New Forest far to wet...

thats the sort of thing, mine is closer to the one on this page :

I did the ToW last year, long course on day 1 and medium on day 2. Great event and attracts a good standard of rider. There were certainly some hills :!: Alfreds tower was as close to having to get off and push as ive got for a while. Thankfully the silly steep bit is quite short.

I have a Thule tow bar rack,it's has its own very crude locking system, one for the bikes and one to the van, which I back of with a prahmasis motorbike lock and chain.its expensive but at least I know the bikes safe.

I also use a bike cover to go over it when traveling,it' plain, can't see what undeneathe, stops nosy bugbears and all the road salt trashing the bike.this is also locked with a coiled cable to the bike rack.

All together I have three locks securing tow bar, bike and cover.

I have for been to race events/stop for a coffee at a service to find that some one needed my bike more than me.dont take an chances now.

Hi Cali1

Thanks for reply.

I have a VW rack didn't want towbar just for the bikes, Just want to secure my pride and joy am thinking about covers, but there ment to be like a wind break as the bikes are higher on the VW rack.

Think the cover will be a must even if it's just for when we're parked up and locks of some sort... :D

Cheers

Luckily no serious injuries just a few scabs on me knee's and elbow and a few bruised ribs where me mate run me over :doh oh and lots of holes in me cycling kit luckily no damage to me beloved steed! Or me crimbo pressie cross max wheels
Still I can see the funny side of it now albeit feeling a tad sore and a bit stiff, hope the water reseeds for you soon?

Was thinking about previous posts about a possible meet and ride! Going to Busfest this year anyone fancy a ride around the Malvern Hills while there?

We've just had another trail centre open up nearby and it's great! We now have two superb centres less than half an hour away!

If any of you come to Cornwall, bring a bike too!

Went to see the Lance Armstrong Lie last night as it was on at the local pics.

Bit disappointing really. Nothing new and no real details. More distressingly, someone told me the sound track was by '90s rock legends Tesla, but I only noticed one track

Sorry! Who the hell are Tesla? I Goggled them and got all motoring stuff. Don't seem rock legends to me. Saw Springsteen in Auckland on Saturday night and he is a rock god :clap Up there with the the greats.

Andy

Rock legends might have been over egging the pudding a little, but I like them! They reformed a few years back.

Remember seeing them at the Hammersmith Odeon, back in the days when I had hair...

I remember seeing Jethro Tull, Humble Pie, Hawkwind etc in my youth. Happy days :D . The Who and Bruce Springsteen are my limit now, although Jimmy Barnes seems very popular down under.

An unrestored Cinelli Super Corsa picked up in Amsterdam for 100eu and a pink Raleigh Dyna Tech on retro bike duties near Pendle. Got lots of old bikes to hang off the back of Berhardt, most of which can be found over at Retrobike.

good old fashion cables shaun ..... i do love the Di2 and tried it ,but the T1 frame has external run cabling like most Ti frames do and i didn't want the Di2 cable taped to the bottom tube.. i still love the feel of being in control of the gear changing and boy they do work well ...
I love this frame as well even though it was new old stock hidden away ... i had a read up on it and then had a heart attack at the frame price ,but couldn't get it out of my head while i looked at carbon and other Ti frames .... i sold loads of stuff at home and the wife to get it ... :laugh2

mrkawasaki i love your purchase and Ti lasts forever and timeless :thumb :thumb

Any of you have a better technique than me for trail (disk brake) pad replacement that doesn't involve extreme violence, tool breakage and lots of swearing?

I can pretty much re-build a bike from top to bottom but still get foxed by pistons that are rather hesitant to retract leaving a pad gap too small for the rotor to slot into. At home I use a big screwdriver and limited violence - I don't really want to carry it on the trail though!

I have SRAM XO brakes.

I use a 4mm Allen key held flat across the piston. Push from both sides of the Allen key to retract the piston. Got Shimano XT brakes so not sure if this method is an option for you.

That sounds like a good idea that I didn't think of (although my "travel" allen key is folded into a Lezyne tool kit - I might just take a spare 4mm allen key from now on!)!

This is a thread about bikes. Your only three posts related to bikes is about how boring you find them. How about posting in all the threads in this section to tell us how boring you find running, surfing, kayaking, etc boring too?! :crazy

How very silly.

"Bike Porn"-your rides and how/where you use them

AlternativeKim .... We had this crap from you before... You've posted 25 posts since 2012 and half are on the bike thread ... You need to get a hobby Kim or a different Cali club ..maybe just stick to the threads that interest you if there are any. ..if not start one ...!!!
Bottom line don't post on this thread
