"Bike Porn"-your rides and how/where you use them

I grew up around your area of Surrey; moved down aged 14.
The nicest part of the South East I reckon. Fond memories of Leith Hill, Box Hill and many areas nearby.

If ever you want somewhere to stay just let us know. My brother in law is currently the photographer on the facebook summer lightning page.

Very kind - cheers! Likewise if you're ever stuck down here.

The FB page looks good - I was riding that area in the REALLY old MTB days - Muddy Fox Couriers, oval chainrings and bizarre chain stay mounted brakes!

Great ride yesterday at the local trail centre; only 14 miles but 2000 feet of climbing.
Went to buy a parking ticket; a guy gave me his all day one.
Dropped a glove; a guy ran and gave it back to me.
I was starving after the ride but had no money for a snack; I found a tenner in my cycle shorts.
Perfect conditions, the crowds arrived just as I was leaving.

As da kidz would say "a day full of win!"

What trail centre are you using?
That was a very productive day, somedays it all goes so smoothly!!!

This was Cardinham, just two miles from Lanhydrock where MKRW was (ridden there lots too!) near Bodmin.

It's more of a workout than Lanhydrock (wife's uncle is head gardener of the main house there!) and not so kid friendly but there's a great play area and awesome cafe too!

The red route known as Hells Teeth is properly challenging; the initial climb has most people off and pushing, the DH section is pretty severe in parts!

I think I've found somewhere new to explore then......Will be heading over once back in the UK.

Be sure to take plenty of snaps!

Flipping hot ride yesterday - I think I nearly sweated my head off.

An unrestored Cinelli Super Corsa picked up in Amsterdam for 100eu and a pink Raleigh Dyna Tech on retro bike duties near Pendle. Got lots of old bikes to hang off the back of Berhardt, most of which can be found over at Retrobike.

Mr. Kawasaki!

Can you fit your Ascent EX, with the wheels off, into the boot, under the shelf behind the bench, of your California? I'm really quite taken with the camper and am thinking of coming over and hiring one for a trip this autumn. As you know, I'm in Canada and VW doesn't offer the California here so I need to check it out the hard way!

Your help is appreciated!

Thanks,
Andre.

Stage 1 & 2 done :) great week away in the Cali and the TDF in Yorkshire was a massive buzz ..
See cav take his tumble at the end as well

My swiss army bike :smile .....

2013 Spesh Stumpy EVO FSR 26"

I spent entirely to much cash both buying and customising...it is running 1x10 with a Renthal cockpit. It's the last bike I will ever purchase - I have gone through more MTB's than I care to remember having wasted way too much money, this Stumpy is the first bike I have been 100% happy with - love it!

It goes up almost as quickly as it goes down!

Very nice and with the correct sized wheels!

I'm riding a lot less than I used to (but surfing and running a LOT more!) due to moving closer to the sea but one rather strange benefit - my bike isn't needing massive money spending on it almost non stop - it just keeps working properly!

In one year my bike cost me more than two vehicles combined to run (a fair bit needed replacing).

My bike started off as a complete 2007 Stumpjumper HT - now there isn't a single original part - not even one bolt.

Off the top of my head since I bought the bike it's had:

New frame (Cotic Soul 3)
3 rear mechs (now XO)
3 cranksets including bottom brackets (settled on Chris King)
Two front mechs (now XTR)
Two headsets (now Hope)
Three sets of forks (now Fox 120mm Float)
Three sets of brakes (now X0)
Three sets of shifters (now X0)
Five cassettes (!) - now PG990
Many chains
Six sets of tyres
Three sets of bars (now Easton EC90)
Four saddles (now Spesh Phenom Pro)

And many other smaller parts.

I am now going to avoid adding that all up….

Everyone else been enjoying the dusty trails this summer?

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

That is a great photo.

I got a new down hill mtb in May and have been building up confidence on it.... favourite trail was the New Summer Lightning extension off of the top of Leith Hill.

That was until just before my August holiday when I had my first really big fall (a nice slow motion dive over the handle bars finishing in a holly bush). :crazy  :doh

I'm now investing in some big pads and also some really good night lights as it starts getting darker earlier. Any light suggestions greatly welcome. (Helmet and Handle bar mounted).

My recommendation for lights would be lumicycle led lights now rebranded as lumies. Made in the uk, really well built, stupidly bright so be careful using them on the road, long run time on the li-ion batteries.
Not sure if available in your lbs now but buying direct is no issue.

Not been riding enough; lots of running, swimming and surfing though.

But I did lead an after school group teaching year R kids to ride (some could already ride like my son!). By the end of it, all could ride properly; many started off wobbly even with stabilisers. It went down so well, they want us to do it again! Very very satisfying.

I've been out with my boy a few times at a local trail centre which is fun.

Oh well, my annual crazy spend on maintaining my bike has plummeted; at one stage my bike cost me more than both cars to maintain!

I night ride a fair bit; 1700 bar light (very high quality but not made any more) and a 500 lumen Moon helmet light; works a treat.

Re: "Bike Porn"-your rides and how/where you use them

There's loads of bike porn about at the moment and sure loads of stuff we can share about trips , places been and review them as well as bikes you have etc ....

Re: "Bike Porn"-your rides and how/where you use them

I will post up more , but a ball ache with all that titting about with photos ... Maybe one day it could be sorted ;-)

Not very exciting but had a good cycle with a mate (who is a brilliant all round rider) around our local trails. We got rather muddy...

Re: "Bike Porn"-your rides and how/where you use them

The trails around here are still amazingly mud free for mid October.
On the road side of things I have entered Velothon Wales for June next year which should be good on closed roads. Making it a long weekend and booked into a site near Cardiff.
Before that fancy trying one of the spring classic sportives and then watching how the pros do it the next day . Prob Amstel Gold or Liege Baston Liege. Anyone on here done one of those?

Nothing exciting (my slightly smart Soul isn't here...) but.. Do you think we need more red bikes?
