1. Which vehicle do you have. According to your Avatar information you have a T5 on order.

2. Do you have any problems with the vehicle?

3. All manner of faults of an intermittent nature can be logged and never cause a problem . Sometimes a low battery voltage can cause problems to be logged as the various electronics start up.

4. Clear the faults registered and go for a drive and then re-check for any faults.

Looks like the CAN has lost communication with the comfort module.
You’ll need a wiring diagram and locate the module in question.
Identify the power and earth first and check.

After that identify the CAN wiring and check visually. Check for 60ohm across the CAN pair.
After that you’ll need an oscilloscope I’m afraid.

Hello thank you for your answers.

It all started when the electric sliding door would no longer close, at first it would open but would no longer close.
Later the door stopped responding altogether.
The problem was in the door sensor, which was located in the rubber of the sliding door, where the connections had worn through.
I then replaced this with a new one to protect people.
After that, all the problems I mentioned in my first post arose.
Tonight I actually checked how much voltage there is on the California and that is 10.5 volts with the charger after a day of charging.
It appears that 1 of the three batteries is defective and I think it is the house battery.
I also have to reset the date on the display every time and it seems as if the power has gone away and then comes back again.
Tomorrow I will check everything again and in any case replace the house battery.
I have already tested the other two batteries and the motorcycle battery was replaced with a new one three weeks ago.
If you have any tips, I would love to hear them and thank you very much in advance,

regards,
Willem

There are 3 batteries on the California.
The engine battery , under the bonnet, that starts the engine and runs the vehicle.
The 2 leisure batteries, 1 under the Front drivers seat and 1 under the rear wardrobe. These 2 batteries are wired in parallel and power the fridge, water pump,, diesel parking heater, roof and lights and sockets in the habitation area.
These 2 batteries are connected by a 75 amp cube fuse on the +tve pole of the rear leisure battery.
Check the cube fuse.
When connected to the mains does the voltage rise on the control panel to 13.4 v upto 14.4 v?
If the voltage does not rise then the Mains charger is not working.
If the voltage rises but the voltage drops to , as you said 10.5v, when the mains is disconnected then the Leisure batteries have failed, one or both. If that is the case BOTH leisure batteries should be replaced.

Good morning and thank you for your answers,

Today I will check all the batteries and hope that the problem has been solved. It is strange that when I look at the display a message appears with the message "cable?".
It seems like more and more errors are occurring even though I haven't actually removed anything except replacing the door seal.
Is this because it is an extremely complex system or can these problems occur as a kind of chain reaction when there is a bad battery in the camper?
I'm going to check everything today and hope that it has been resolved because I'm slowly starting to get tired of it.
Thank you again in advance for your thoughts and I hope to be able to report tonight that everything is okay again.

regards,
Willem

Good morning,

I checked all the batteries yesterday and the battery in the back of the camper was almost empty. I then connected the power cable, but after a while a message "cable?" appeared on the display. and there was a ping ping ping sound. It stopped a moment later and then came back.
I then retested all the fuses, including those under the driver's seat and under the hood, all of which were intact.
The sliding door only responds to the remote control, but then I only hear a tap and nothing happens.
There is no response at all to the controls on the sliding door itself, it seems as if there is no power to the door.
I'm just curious what the cable that is at the roller at the top of the sliding door does, is that a sliding contact?
Here is also my last VCDS check, perhaps you can make something out of it, thank you very much in advance for your responses and I hope that I will find a solution today.

1. Those VCDS faults are not significant. Have you cleared them and see if any return?
2. You have a dead leisure battery. Are they original?
If they are original BOTH should be changed.
If they are not original you could try removing the flat battery and charge it up with a Smart Charger. But why is it flat? Is the 75amp cube fuse OK?
3. Sliding door . You say it does not respond to the controls on the door, only the Remote. Is that correct?
Check to see if the Child Lock is activated.
What about the Dashboard controls. Do they work? Is the door switched to Manual?

With all the different things you are throwing into the thread it becomes a bit difficult to understand what the problem or problems are. If I were you I would focus on the 2 camping (leisure) batteries first. If the rear one is almost empty then it need replacing and you should do this before you worry about the other problems:
  • the cube fuse near the rear battery needs to be replaced
  • the rear battery needs replacing
  • the battery under the seat should be replaced at the same time even if it still holds a bit of charge
When you replace the batteries be sure to charge them both to 100% before installing them; don't assume they are fully charged just because they are new. Don't forget to put in a new cube fuse.

First of all, thank you for your thoughts

I have indeed reset the errors and they come back but not always.
The battery under my seat has been tested and found to be good and yesterday I installed a fully charged battery for the battery in the back.
If I now connect the power cable to 230 volts, I get the message "cable?" on the household display. and hear beeps.
1 of the 2 batteries is original and the other is not, but in good condition.
I can't find a fuse anywhere near the rear battery, can you please indicate where it is located?
I also checked whether the child lock was on, but that was not the case.
There is a response to the remote control in the form of a slight click, but the sliding door does nothing.
The controls on the dashboard don't work either, but I have no idea how it was or could be set to manual.
Does anyone of you know how to set the sliding door to manual mode?

Thank you very much again for your responses.

First of all, thank you for your thoughts

1. All later Transporters/Californias with electric sliding doors have a switch beside the Dsshboard Sliding Door Open/Close switch that will switch the door to Manual mode. Have you such a switch?
Is the radio fitted Original?

Hello,
no i don't have that switch only one to lock the sliding door during driving.
The radio is not the original anymore so thats one of the faults reported by vcds

Thanks for your help

Yes, ignore the VCDS radio faults.

I’m confused. What happened to the CAN comms fault in the original post??

Good morning,
yes, I am also very surprised, perhaps the total DCT reset has finally resolved a number of errors.
Today I will check whether the 75 amp fuse is broken and if that is indeed the case, I hope that the sliding door will also work again.
I'll let you know when it all works again.
If that is not the case, I hope you will share your thoughts again.
Thank you in advance.

Good evening,

After days of searching I gave up and don't think I can solve this myself.
I checked all fuses again and the battery voltage as well as the relays, but no defects were found.
It seems as if the sliding door is not receiving power, although a click can be heard when I press the remote control.
The controls on the door itself give no response at all.
An additional problem is that the display does not indicate when the car is on 230 volts (charging cable) and the G remains in the display and therefore probably does not charge.
I also have to reset the clock in the control display every time.
This actually means that the tension drops every now and then.

Who has the golden tip for the sliding door and the loss of power?

Thank you very much again for your help

1. The Sliding Door malfunction has nothing to do with the Leisure Batteries.
Check the Cube fuse.
When you are on Mains Hookup does the Mains socket on the kitchen unit work?
If it does and the Charger doesn't show the Plug icon on the Control Panel then check the IC Mains plug into the Charger, it can come loose.
Next check the Control Panel

Check Control Panel Diagnostics.

Control Panel Off and wait 30 secs

Control Panel On

Press and Hold R lower button and then press Control Knob for 5 secs.

New Hidden Menu . Scroll to VW Diagnostics.

If there are any codes shown, take note and then Reset/Clear.

Return to Main Menu.

Switch Off Control Panel using L lower button. Wait 30 secs and Switch On.

Try Roof/Heater or Fridge

2. Your last VCDS readout showed No Fault on the Right Sliding Door.
It sounds as if you are unlocking the Sliding Door with the Remote. but it is not opening.
Check all 30amp fuses under front drivers seat.

Have you checked the Handbook regarding operation of the Electric Sliding door. I'm very surprised there isn't someway to switch it to manual.

On the dashboard are your electric door buttons, there should be a button with the sliding door symbol and "OFF"..... press that then try to open the door from outside with the handle, do not use the remote.

Did you check the cube fuse on the leisure battery? Your photo wasn't clear and doesn't look correct, what's the broken pink rubber on the cable terminal?

Thank you for your help and I will check all this today.
The cube fuse is not present on my leisure battery, I ordered one yesterday and am going to install it this week.
There was one there, but I think the previous owner of my California removed it, I hope no further damage was caused as a result.
I also get the idea that the sliding door is disabled by software, but I have no idea where to look for that.
Maybe you can activate that again with a code in VCDS.
Thank you very much for your tips and thoughts.
Regards, Willem

There is indeed a button on the dashboard that allows you to turn off the sliding door, which is more for security while driving, I think.

Hi Willem, The off button allows manual operation of the door, the doors are blocked from opening whilst driving.

If the fuse is removed I'm wondering why as normally there is no need to touch it.. have there been electrical modifications?

Hi,
I don't think any modifications have been made to my California except that the solar panel on the roof is connected to the rear battery.
I received the cube fuse today and am going to install it this week.
I still find it strange that it seems as if there is no power coming to the sliding door.
Thank you again in advance for your thoughts/answer,

Regards,
Willem

We’ll fix that then first! Fitting a cube fuse won’t make and difference.
Just run a temporary supply to the door from any battery and see if that cures the problem.
