Heat buster tip...sleep in the Cali on the drive!

Yep we all slept in Zebedee last night to get away from the awful heat in the house. All slept well including the dog.

Wish it was that hot here....went out with the dog, returned drenched and cold.....still managed a peek in Fred.....he's still to get polished up after 2 week holiday...but is as handsome as ever....ruggedly so at the moment!

What are the tips for keeping cool in the cali (and keeping bugs out )

I am rarely in it during the day, but roof up, vents open, through draught with windows open, fly screens and fridge working overtime to chill the wine.

I'm one of those fortunate people that heat does not often bother me.

If you are in the South of France in mid-summer, you simply won't be able to keep cool! We were in Antibes a couple of years ago in July, and it was 37C. We abandoned the Cali for a few days and booked into a B&B. If there is a breeze then you may be OK up in the roof. Once we travelled up into the mountains it was very pleasant in the evenings, so if you haven't booked a site then consider trying to gain some altitude if you can.

Good tips and we are in good shape on the way down, as we are going down through Luxembourg and then Alp-y bit of Germany, Austria and Switzerland - so that should be tolerable.

But we have promised the kids 5 days in the South of France (waterparks, beaches etc) - we have picked a site we have stayed on before and we know it has shade, but I think I might get a bit hot!

In Luxembourg City at the moment. 38 degrees for last two days - sweltering! But we did manage to sleep reasonably well up in the roof. Moving on to the German Wine Route tomorrow but it's been just as hot there. Fortunately the beer in the fridge is ice cold.

Which campsite in the South of France?

We're going shortly for the first time so looking for some nice relaxing campsites with a pool.

It certainly has a pool - not sure you would count it as relaxing, but after 2 weeks mucking around in mainland Europe we promised the kids some kid time

We have been out of season before and it was lovely, but I expect it to be very busy in August (it is one of the ones that Eurocamp use)

Very nice looking campsite, but a bit shocked at the price - over 50 euros per day! I guess you're paying for all the nice pools and other facilities...

Yeah - not your ideal Cali - rural secluded campsite, but after 2 weeks of touring the Germanic bits of Europe the kids wanted a "proper" beach holiday.
