Has anyone had any aftermarket side bars fitted?

There seems to be loads of suppliers - but I wanted to get peoples feedback as some seem to obstruct the jacking points????

Van-style is just down the road from me but they look like they obstruct!

I have side bars which have black bits for you to stand on. I do use them to get in and out as does my elderly Aunt. They did save even more damage back in January.

We have jacked it without any problems....can't remember the name but it will come to me.

I have after market side bars on my SE and have jacked up rear wheels (VW supplyed jack) with out problem

NIck .
Ours came from here.

Autobrands took over the Steelworks brand who were recommended on here by Kev when we had our first Cali.
I can't find them on eBay at present but the contact there was Lisa Reynolds who was very helpful.

Had two sets now, first ones got bent last year when that Spanish bollard attacked us.
Excellent quality.

Thanks Brian I was looking for the original post. They are good quality sidebars. :thumb

Cheers folks - I'll take a look ☺

I bought bars at Busfest from Just Kampers, they posted them to me free and the service is excellent. I fitted them myself, very easy job.

Cliff the bars from just kampers look excellent and great value. Are they simple to fit and do they have any issues around accessing the jacking up points when installed? For the technical layman is it an easy self install? Thx.

I have just had side bars fitted trax 76mm with rubber steps on each side they do not obstruct jacking points they are from Vanstyle near Nottingham fitted free £169.They look great.

Thanks Roket will look into those. Thats alot cheaper than the 500 notes for the VW ones!

Re the issue of jacking up a Cali with bars, I do not think that if I had a puncture I would be able to get the wheels off myself anyway so would call out the cavalry. They would use a professional jack which would have no issue.
Do not worry.
One life, live it. 

We have just ended up fitting the VW ones as there seemed to be extra issues for the 4 motion. Worth checking that out if an issue, and also the check they do not have fitting bars running from side to side (as many do ) as these worsen clearance etc

Ours is a 4Motion. No problems at all with the Steelworks bars. Not sure what you mean by bars from side to side but ours just have the two brackets per side bolted to the preformed holes in the sills. As mentioned, about half an hour per side. One tip when fitting the bolts into holes, put the retaining clip loosely onto the bolt before fitting in the hole and then screw the clip round once in until it's tight.
Also, some blocks of wood to hold the undertray open helps.

I can post a picture of the black VW ones, if you like. Or as you are coming to the meet next Sunday you could see what you think. We are very pleased with them. What colour is your Cali? Simon

I'd be interested in seeing a picture of the black ones if you don't mind Simon?

We are planning to post a report of our first week of ownership of our Cali. She has been named the Bristol Belle, so we are trying to get a picture of her with a Bristol icon in the background. But we haven't been able to park near enough to one when it hasn't been raining. I've attached two pictures sent to us by the garage whilst we waited for the handover day. Not the most exciting location or photos, but well lit so they can be seen.
I was trying to attach one full size & one thumbnail, but failed. Sorry.
Hope this helps. Simon

Looking good Simon, makes sense for me to go for black as mine has the black dakar alloys already :thumb

Well I bit the bullet and went with the black ones - well impressed with the quality and so easy to fit! I'll pop a picture on shortly :) but I'm well happy.

Looks very nice indeed Nick. Will you be bringing this to the April meet?

Simon
