No snow. Summit temp 3C. Snow forecast to start 12hrs after we arrived at the summit selfie queue.Great pics, was there any snow on the top for them?
There was a bit there a couple of weeks ago
There are plenty of places to camp in the area, but we slummed it in the Pen y Pass Youth Hostel (£99 for a four bunk room with en suite, plus £20 for the parking).Looks like a great day. Did you overnight @Amarillo ? If so recommendations for camping sites/spots.
Jack needs to wind his boot laces in ....
Great to see, Tom, ...
Oh, and that "Erith" comment .... I was walking the Thames Trail Westminster to Thames Barrier last week and noticed the extension goes to Erith. The 168 bus also used to go to Erith. I caught that bus in 1958 with my Red Rover ticket to Erith, the furthest Easterly point on the Thames that my Red Rover could take me to ,and had rather an unfortunate incident that tainted my view of Erith forever!
Going off topic, but over so slightly, doesn't the London Green chain start from there?Erith doesn’t improve.
Red Rovers were great. 35p for unlimited child travel for a day. During the school holidays mum used to give us 35p each, fill our hands with 2p coins, give us her old nursing watch, and send us off for the day with an instruction to phone her every hour.
We’d spend the 2ps on sweets, phone every hour and just speak through the pips pretending the 2ps had been swallowed by the phone for nothing.

My next is Capital ring, then London loop but an interim, handy for CAMNC Abbry wood, may be the Erith start.
At 6 and 7, they both did incredibly well.View attachment 86862View attachment 86863A couple of weeks ago there was a nice dusting in places.
They were queueing when I was there too.
You must be very proud dad they made it up and down![]()
My daughter wouldn't of walked up that at that age, come to think about it I wouldn’t have back then either. At 6 and 7, they both did incredibly well.
I’m mostly delighted that I can take the boys away on my own for walking weekends.
Clare is delighted for slightly different reasons.
The Scottish Munros now beckon. I don’t know when, but I expect Schiehallion will be our first Munro together.
I also hope to do some overnight backpacking on Dartmoor before too long.

Good luck with your next adventure.
Let me know when you do the Capital Ring. We live almost on top of it.My next is Capital ring, then London loop but an interim, handy for CAMNC Abbry wood, may be the Erith start.

Well done to them both. Which route did you take in the end?
Great achievements.Pyg Track up, Miners’ Path down. It was a good compromise. I’d have preferred the Watkin Path, but that’s a bit challenging near the top. The Llanberis Path completely lacks challenges.
I’m not really sure what next for my young mountaineers.
Ben (7) has now bagged Cadair Idris, Pen y Fan, Ingleborough, Pen y Gent, Helvellyn and now Snowdon. Jack (6) just Cadair Idris and Snowdon.
Maybe a week in the Lakes during February half term will prepare them for greater challenges.
The Glyders, Moel Siabod, Cnicht - plenty still to do...Pyg Track up, Miners’ Path down. It was a good compromise. I’d have preferred the Watkin Path, but that’s a bit challenging near the top. The Llanberis Path completely lacks challenges.

Great photos, even better memories. They are a pair of youngsters to be very proud of![]()

Have you thought of the Wainwrights with your boys Tom? Easier to get to than the munros for a start. We met a woman carrying a toddler, with a 6 year old on a Wainwright last weekend. He'd completed about 60 and had a map at home with them all on which he was keeping track. He seemed really motivated by it which was lovely to see.At 6 and 7, they both did incredibly well.

I was about to butt in but @stephen got in before me.
Whats up with the lakes?
Scafell Pike of Course, from Wasdale head .... but a bit of scrambling on Crinkles, Pike o Stickle via a detour to Gimmer crag .... (look up to Kiplings Groove to see my finest achievement with Langdale MRT).... , Pillar via black sail ....
AmarilloThe Lakes are an hour further away than Snowdonia.
It’s not about numbers of hills bagged, it’s about having fun and challenge.
I’m determined that we’ll have a night out on Dartmoor next year - I’ve got them child size backpacks for their Christmas presents.
