Car wow T7 Ocean VS T6.1 Ocean

I didn’t realise the inside table arrangement was so terrible. Forget finding space for a toilet, the lack of storage, narrow bed etc, the kitchen table is a stone cold deal breaker for me. (6:20 in the video if, like me, you can’t bear this fella).

Just watched it. Yep Mat is a bit of a div. Although he's spot on with the Comparo_Overall a poorer experience, especially in camping mode.

Apart from the driving experience, front cab/tech and sliding window blinds I would choose the previous Cali setup in every way. The twin slider of the Multivan handicaps the kitchen and storage massively, no interior table and so little worktop space. Ok as a weekender but not a family on tour.

I was open minded about the new Cali.

Having watched this, car vs van driving experience aside, I can’t see any compelling reason to change for any T6 owner.

That said, I do find using the T6.1 as a daily driver a bit cumbersome. So if I wasn’t a hardcore camper and just wanted a family van to dart to the beach or a weekend away, this could make more sense.

This video wasn't as annoying as I was expecting. The presenter clearly has experience with the 6.1.

Biggest reason for me to stay with my beloved 6.1 is i'm 6ft6in and a van that's any smaller is just not an option. T7 makes a lovely recommendation for others though! I'm still interested to see the hybrid version.

Just on the OP table comment.
Yeah, I don't particularly like the way he does these reviews ... the large table is not as bad as he presented in the T7. The table slides into the kitchen unit just like the T6.1 and two legs pop down to support the other side. Granted it is stored in the back and not in the kitchen slot like the T6.1 so a little more to do to set it up.

Went to Bristol today and popped into the showroom to look at one. I am glad we got the 6.1 - for us no way would the Multivan Cali work, there’s hardly any storage at all in that kitchen nor under the rear seats.

I am sure the new Cali will appeal to some. Interesting that Bristol had two pre regs in too. Maybe sales aren’t that great?

some people don’t like change.
Not when it's for the worse..... although like you say it will appeal to some with different priorities to the traditional Cali owner.

I still think it’s a great van and will appeal to a lot of people some people don’t like change. Can’t wait to get mine
Totally agree. It's a Campervan not a Mini Motorhome as some want.

Having owned a 6.1 coast and an ocean previously I was back in the market and looked at the T7; have to agree with the Carwow guy. I guess if you’re looking for a daily runner and a day/weekend van, then maybe.. but it’s full of compromises compared to the 6.1 and as an out and out camper it’s a step backwards. I can’t imagine a couple stocking up and heading off for a week in it, let alone a family with kids and a dog!
Opted for a low mileage 6.1 4motion and glad I did, again horses for courses, but the T7s not for me!

Anyone mentioned the price, I paid 65k for my Ocean 6.1 in 2022,just had a quote of 89k for this totally compromised replacement, driving will be a better experience but that's it. There is so so much choice in this price range today, VW are cashing in and models will sit in dealers unsold is my guess until big discounts are applied.

Matt from Carwow is about as cack handed as they come so I’m not surprised he struggled with things like the table and awning. He’s such a cretin that I doubt he can tie his own shoe laces. Putting him to one side the T7 is a nice van and probably usable for a couple. Too small for more than two though unless its a weekend only trip. Even for a couple they will need to be very organised and using crates in the boot for many items. We are in the market for either a nearly new T6.1 or a new T7 around October time. In order to help make the decision we are renting a T6.1 (4 motion) over the Easter weekend and will do the same in a T7 in August or September. We are still quite torn as we like the look of the T7 but want a van we can take on European road trips, including into the Alps, so are leaning towards a nearly new T6.1 4 Motion. Pricing of a low mileage T6.1 4 Motion Ocean is almost the same as a new T7 Ocean from DriveTheDeal.

I guess for us our T6 is a ‘Campervan’
and the T7 seems like the camping aspects have all been retrograde design.
It may suit some but when we change unfortunately we’ll have to look elsewhere.

Not sure there are a lot of alternatives, this is the issue.

As for cost, the 6.1 pricing new and the 7 at today’s prices adjusted are pretty similar. I agree though, they are charging too much and I suspect they’ll struggle to sell. Time will tell.

However, at least there’s a lower cost 4Motion option on the 7 hybrid.

For me it's a definite NO. Only one ring on the cooker and the seats certainly aren't going to make a reasonable comfortable bed. Add that to the reduced storage and there's no way we would be setting off on our 4 - 6 week trips in one.

I was in exactly the same position and recently picked up a 22 plate 4 motion with less than 6k miles for less than 65k.. I’ve owned a coast and an ocean 6.1 previously and the T7 just isn’t for me (couple and a dog, often away for a week or more at a time, just not enough space and storage as well as compromises on kitchen facilities and fridge space too by the looks.

Just on the bed comfort comment. I would say it’s a world of difference to the 6.1 and for the better. The mattress is now on a solid base rather than the old comfort one and for me it’s a game changer. Much quicker set up and easier to move the seats. We are two adults and one dog and are only weekenders so part of the minority. Loved my 6.1 but at 50,000 miles and four years old it was starting to cost a bit in maintenance and the five year warranty was a concern given the number of faults it had so decided to make the change. Only 900 miles done so far and it’s working for me.

Interesting. We still haven’t completely ruled out a conversion of the new Transporter/Transit! Will go to the NEC show in October and make a final decision there, depending on what convertors are doing with the new vans.

Just watched this on YouTube. Very interesting video.
I've never rotated a front seat while stting in it. I almost gave up watching as he did that. And the kitchen and table malarkey - not so good. T7 Not for me.
