My advice would be not to part with your hard earned cash too quickly. Be nosy on a camp site and have a good look at all the toys, talk to other campers and see how they do stuff and what they wouldn't be without. Most people are friendly and will impart useful information. And don't dismiss second hand.
Good luck with the ferries to the north island and enjoy your new van.

One thing to really think about before buying (we didn’t) was a drive away awning. We saw some on campsites and really thought a great idea, parted with £350 and we’ve put it up 3 times! It’s a faff even though it’s the inflatable kind, takes up rear boot space, gets damp just from the overnight air and isn’t that easy to reconnect after driving away especially when returning in the dark!. Only worth it if you’re staying somewhere for a few nights I think.
The things we’ve used the most are
Ridge monkey
Cadac 2 Pro gas stove
Thetford porta potti (essential)
A dryrobe (or similar) for those cold visits to the shower-block.

I sold my Cali Ocean a couple of months ago and sold most of my stuff but I have a Thetford ports potti 335, a loft ladder and a front thermal window blind everything has only been used 3 times if you’re interested.
