Hello,

My name is Dan Cameron and I am the forum consultant for A-Plan Insurance.

I have worked at the special schemes centre at A-Plan for 10 years and we specialise in all types of niche vehicles.

We cover anything from high performance japanese performance vehicles to classic VW campers.

We have really competative schemes on classic campers and motorhomes so its well worth giving us a call. We can also offer cover if your vehicle is modified. :thumb

You are also more than welcome to drop me a private message with your name and contact details and you will get a call back the same day.

Please mention that you are a member on the VWcalifornia forum to Receive a 10% club membership discount.

Kind regards

Dan Cameron

Dan,

Do you cover California Beaches as motorhomes, or not?

Some (e.g. RAC - who were actually uncompetitive) seem to allow it, others e.g. Comfort don't.

Thanks,

Chris

Hello,

It all depends on how the vehicle is registered with the DVLA. If the log book has been changed to camper then we can cover it as a camper.

If it has been part converted then we can insure the vehicle as a day van.

The best thing to do is send me a private message with your contact number and I can check and see what I can do. The schemes we have on campers and day vans are really competative so always worth checking to see what we can do.

The one thing we always make sure, is that you are covered correctly and would not have an issue when making a claim.

All the best

Dan the Beach isn't a conversion.

It's a factory prepared vehicle which is a California and so I believe is marketed as a camper -

Flexibility to carry up to seven people and sleep up to four adults, the California Beach suits all your daily and holiday needs.

The primary difference is no kitchen.

Hello Stu,

I have just spoken to the underwriter that covers our motorhomes/campers and they are happy to insure the VW California Beach as a camper :thumb

Hope that helps

Yes, my insurance is due for renewal, so I'll give you a call.

Beach is a bit of an Enigma, can be considered an MPV with a bed (& table, chairs, leisure battery, night heater), or a camper without a Kitchen ...

Dan,

Would probably useful for many people to know about the following, to save any wasted time on both our parties

1) Business use - can you cover it?
2) Commuting use?
3) Any restrictions on mileage?
4) Any restrictions on where vehicle can be left parked (e.g. a week in an airport carpark)
5) Cost delta for adding extra drivers - is this typically lower than a car? Do you have any driver over 30 policies at a reasonable cost delta (not for hire or reward, but for friends & family).

There is probably a host more that other people care about, but that's my personal list ;)

Hello Chris,

1: Business use is a possibilty, but depends on the type of occupation and mileage. Always happy to take the details and refer to the underwriters and see if we can get it agreed.

2:Commuting is easier to get agreed. If its regular commuting again I would refer to our underwriters and occasional commuting (i.e. you drive it work as you are going on holiday that evening or your other vehicle is off the road), then that I can get agreed easily.

3: Mileage I can give discounts for limited mileage or if you need to use the vehicle for higher mileage again I would chat to our underwriters and get it agreed.

4:With regards to parking if you left it in an air port car park it would be fine. If the vehicle was kept on a road unattended in a high risk postcode then the underwriters would have an issue.

5: Adding name driver depending on age, driving history would be calculated at the time of adding the driver. I am not really able to offer a ball park figure as age, occupation, claim/conviction history can all lower or make the premium more expensive. Best if you need to add a driver is to give me a quick call to discuss when you add the driver.
I am sorry to say that we are not able to offer any driver cover.

Most of what we do at A-Plan is risk analysis, where we take the details and see what underwriter we use will give you the best cover to suit your needs.

I hope that helps

All the best
