Yesterday the ABS light quickly followed by the ESP light and now tonight the Faulty Airbag light comes on :(

Are these all connected?

I dare not put the key in tomorrow!!

Help Please

I'm not sure about the " Faulty Airbag " light, but normally if the lights for ASB, ESP and Tyre Pressure come on this indicates a Faulty ASB sensor, commonly on one of the back wheels but not always.

The only way to confirm is by using the VW Diagnostic computer or using an OBD reader such as Carista which will indicate which one is at fault.

Replacing a faulty sensor can be easy, remove wheel, unplug lead, remove securing bolt, lift out sensor and replace with new one and secure with bolt and plug in, replace wheel.

Or as in my case having to drill out the old sensor as it was immovable and took 2 hrs.

Thanks Welsh Gas, I have a carista but it doesn't work on my 2008 California SE :(

Airbag light maybe unrelated to likely wheel speed sensor faults. Check the underseat yellow connector for being dislodged, controls driver/passenger side airbags.

I had something similar a few years ago and it was due to an animal eating some of the wiring under the van

Most likely abs sensor or wiring at back wheels. They are 10 euros. Check to see that 11.67volts comes to the connector when disconnected and engine on (or maybe just ignition). These little guys are powered I believe. There’s a good video of a guy showing the process on his golf.
Vcds VAG com cable will pay for itself very very quickly, plus, if purchased, you get help with fault codes on vcds(Ross-tech) forum.

I have had the DTC downloaded and the ABS is a right rear sensor, easy fix! The Airbag is

00589 - Airbag Igniter; Passenger Side (N131): Resistance too Low

Does anyone have any ideas please?

Could be the Clockspring. I replaced one in my T5.

I have this regularly on my 2012. Luckily my Carista resets it after a little manual fiddle under the passenger seat wiring. Pain in the ar$e.
I think you’ll need a garage to reset - my local mechanic used to do mine - 2 min job that VW will charge £80+ for doing.

Is it the yellow plug under the seat that you 'fiddle' with?

I literally just wiggle the wires around that - it usually happens to us after spinning chair around. But until it’s reset it turns the airbags off I believe

Sadly my carista doesn't work on my 2008 California :(

I agree with the wire wiggling under the rotating seats. I used to get an air bag light on a 2006 and cured it with a wiggle / push on the connector. It came back a few times but then went away for 3+ years before I sold it.

Had ABS, ESP & Tyre pressure lamps. Diagnosed as drivers side sensor rear drivers side. In my case because bearing wear causing sensor to rub, replacing only sensor would result in early failure again. VW quoted £500 for bearing & sensor replacement but local VW Specialist garage did both bearing & sensor for £305. Not cheap but better than main dealer and one of those jobs that can turn into a nightmare in your drive if nuts/bolts corroded etc.

If one sensor goes then the other will follow shortly so get both done at the same time.
Also, as Welsh Gas said, these have a habit of needing bolt drilling out. If you do this be careful as its easy for the drill to touch the segmented sensor ring which is a costly job.

I thought it strange on the OSR...so the bearing sort of makes sense. I had this with my Landrover with the ABS triggering on fast corners as an early warning of worn front wheel bearings

The NSF went on the Cali. In my case it was a 5min job to remove and replace. VAG wanted £95 for the sensor which is a joke (Paid something like £25 for a Landrover one a few years back when doing the wheel bearings as a just in case, it snapped, measure)

I'm trying to ascertain if 00589.003 - Airbag Igniter; Passenger Side (N131): Resistance too Low is the seat or the glove box?

I think N131 could mean main airbag (not side/seat) having looked at VW group forums.

Disconnect the under seat yellow connector to get dtc for that fault which will either match n131 or not.
